By Shaheen A split from her boyfriend Shane and her mother’s insistence makes Jael Mancuso leave Pittsburgh for Seven Hills. Here she finds that nothing is as it seems, there is a web of intrigue that includes members of her own family, her current boyfriend Mike and the sinister Pastor Thomas Jude. With the disturbing shadow of her brother Jimmy's death haunting her she finally discovers the chilling truth about the meaning of “Diversus” and why “The Dead Dance Faster.”Julie Ann Hacker weaves a fascinating story, it keeps you glued to each page until the very end. The characters with all their quirks spring to life, I walked with Jael around “Our First Church 1856”, the description was so realistic I could actually visualise and smell the surroundings. The choice of the Biblical name Jael for the main character and the cult themes underlying the story make for excellent reading. I must admit I am the kind of person to avoid reading horror but once I started reading the book, I was pleasantly surprised. Overall, it has all the ingredients to become a bestseller and I look forward to reading more books by Julie Ann Hacker.

From the moment Jael's jilted lover steals her panties as a souvenir you want to know what happens next. Jael leaves her boyfriend, her nagging mother and her life in Pittsburgh behind for the creepy town of Seven Hills, where she begins exploring her family's mysterious roots and nothing, not even her family, is what it seems.Jael follows her intuition and digs deeper into the lives of the residents of Seven hills, and her own family history. There a bigger mystery to be solved but it takes some time to put the pieces together Love, death, myth and religious fanaticism are explored in this haunting tale that kept my interest until the very end. Jael is real, often raw and emotional. The revelations are startling and some horrifying I won't give anything away you need to read it for yourself
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. This is a terrific, suspenseful read! By Pandora Spocks I just finished reading The Dead Dance Faster by Julie Ann Hackner. Holy cow, what a ride! It's a dark, twisted, unpredictable story.Jael breaks up with her on again/off again boyfriend Shane, quits her job, and moves to an eery little town where her family has questionable and mysterious roots. She wants a break from her dysfunctional family and Seven Hills seems like the right place for a fresh start.I really don't want to tell you much more than that because I don't want spoil the story. But Julie Ann Hackner has created a dark world of family ties, tragedy, religious fanaticism, and "screaming egos" by using sensory atmospheric descriptions that call to mind Stephen King. Along the way she drops hints and clues like a trail of breadcrumbs leading to a shocking finale.I understand that Book #2 will be out in September. Count me in!
