Amusingly, the ostensible gravamen of the book is a brief collection of clichés exactly similar to Flaubert's "Dictionnaire des idées reçues." Most of the book is the purported introduction, a moderately witty gallimaufry of Menckensian generalities about America. Sadly, it's more dated than most of Mencken's philippics.
