Sometimes it’s hard to trust in the unseen. Kate Richardson feels that struggle in her day to day life. With AP and Honors classes and parents who force her to go to youth group every week, she is a hardworking, fun-loving, straight A student. Kate knows that her life is great, from the outside, but after closer examination she admits to herself that her friends aren’t all that she wants them to be. After this realization, Kate embarks on a journey called The Silence that will show her who is really there for her and who will let her go. Although this seemed like a good plan, Kate soon realizes that she needs a way to express herself, or she will not be able to continue. She knows that she needs to talk to someone, but she just doesn’t know who. This leads her to start writing letters to an unknown Whoever. Kate writes all of her triumphs and struggles during The Silence down for Whoever to read. Throughout this project, she deals with friends, family, church, school, and countless other things. But in the end, who will really be there for Kate? Will she learn that there is a loving God who will come chasing after her, despite her attempts to run away from Him? What will it take to end The Silence?

It’s out there, hunting in the darkness and no one can stop it. Its tally of victims increases every day the sun rises and when dusk falls, fear pumps through the city’s veins. It’s in the sky above the buildings, stalking the forests of the parks and slithering through the sewers. The situation is dire and hope is dwindling… It’s too fast, too strong and too smart. A sudden flash burns across the night sky and figure appears; somebody like us, but not like us. As quickly as it appeared, the figure is gone, searching for the thing, ready to deliver justice. Hope has returned and smiles crack the corners of mouths, because everybody recognizes a superhero and we all know what comes next. Epic battles will rage, city blocks will be trampled and the Earth will hang in the balance as the ultimate evil is answered by the ultimate good. Who will triumph, nobody knows and the only thing for certain is that they will fight THE GOOD FIGHT!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s a Superhero Anthology! By Buffy At last, a collection of superhero stories with some originality and style. With over thirty stories, this collection has something for everyone. The Jigarkhwar by D. H. Lewis – A long-lived soldier in India must save a fellow countryman from a sorceress about to eat his liver. Interesting world-building.Nothing to be Gaines by David Bopp – In 1939, a policeman searches for a missing black student with the help of a mysterious flying woman. Clever title.Cold Fingers by Evan Purcell – A superhero fights with another hero to save a little girl from a burning building, but all is not as it seems. Little predictable.Red Fog by Greg Mitchell – A Super Power joins a team of Marines investigating a vampire invasion in Nebraska. Interesting for the nuanced conflict between the Marines and the Super and the vampires and the humans. I’d read the book.Who Reaps Legends by Craig Russette – Ouch! This was a hard story to wade through for several reasons: it’s filled with clichés, it’s overly melodramatic, and it goes on much too long. I couldn’t tell if the dialogue or plot were supposed to be over the top or not.Cat Got Your Tongue by Gary Buettner – I don’t usually care for stories that start in the middle of the action, but this one was excellent for a couple reasons: the “hero” is a former evil witch’s familiar turned humanoid to rectify his past sins (great origin), he has a wise-cracking sidekick (a Jack-o-lantern hanging on his arm!), and a light-hearted touch at the end. Well done.Queen of Demons by Erik De Bie – I think I know this woman. She’s a former superhero named Lady Vengence who worked for an arch-demon in hell but now she’s an empathic, alcoholic bar-owner who can’t keep her nose out of her customer’s business. Nice piece of initial misdirection, too.Chasing the Dragon by Mike Chinn – This is far more than a superhero rescue. This is a tale of revenge and partnership and loss and self-rescue. Cicatrix, a super with living tattoos, comes to rescue Tabella, a super who could draw any object to life (until she was imprisoned by bad guys and had her hands busted) only to discover the truth about Tabella and Cicatrix’s husband.A Good Run by Mark Rivett – This could easily be a novel. Seraph, a retired hero with a human mother and an angel father, helps the city battle an ancient dragon. Unfortunately, a team defending the dragon show up to rescue it and threaten the world. Nicely written and very appropriate title. The Hero Disease by Christopher Nadeau – An insightful look at the superhero in all of us when the world’s last superhero, Vanishing Act, must battle an unbeatable foe.Pirate Ninja vs The Sea Pixies by Eric J. Guignard – Silly but fun. A pirate ninja sworn never to harm man or beast tries to save his fellow pirates from sea pixies (they’re neither men nor beasts) but one of them is also a ninja!Slouching toward Ragnarok by Frank Burns – An interesting mind game tale. A convict tries to make his cellmate, the deadliest killer alive, live up to his name after he causes the death of his wife and becomes a pacifist. In Her Footsteps by Michael Healy – A young immigrant woman, using her mother’s magic pendant without permission, must deal with the consequences when she kills one of the criminals who have taken a neighborhood family hostage. Nice tale of the high cost of being a superhero.Dustboy Cometh by Robert Hart – I worried this charming tale of a nerd with his own jetpack would end up dark. When he stops a late night mall heist stealing from his father’s store with three vacuum cleaners and some hamster balls, I applauded heartily.Meeting the Monster by Shannon Muir – A homeless street urchin with telekinetic powers saves people in her neighborhood from thugs and muggers. The appearance of a yeti-like beast who challenges her to a death match blurs the line between monster and superhero.A Visit to Scarpa, Cleveland Chapter by B. T. Petro – The Superhero and Companion Retirees and Pets Association meets at the Cleveland library to discuss old times and how technology has replaced the need for Professor Map and the Sultan of Scent. It’s not too late for romance, however.Sometimes It’s Better Being a Sidekick by Amanda Williams – I wondered if writing about superheroes was a Men Only club so I’m glad to see Ms. Williams’s piece here. Her young hero is taking the Alpha test even though he believes his power to duplicate himself makes him more of a B-lister (and therefore a sidekick). He encounters explosive slugs, sand vultures, flesh-eating rats, the super-villain who killed his mother, and the terrible truth about the test. What I did This Summer (A 7th Grade Essay by Suzie Sampson) by Jason Andrew – Cute viewpoint of a thirteen-year-old super-heroine trying to avoid publicity and being grounded while “fighting against an extra-dimensional invasion from a parallel universe where a humanoid species evolved from a vicious form of French-speaking velociraptors.”Blue Moon Girl by Alli Gagner – Wow! This one’s a wild ride. It has teen romance, supernatural powers, kidnapping, imprisonment, and rich kids with a secret. What more could you ask for?Troubling Undercurrents by Nick Bryan – This is an interesting concept – a mild-mannered geek with a split personality dons a leather suit when he’s UnderCurrent and goes and beats bad guys bloody. Unfortunately, it’s much too long, possibly because the two of them spend most of the story bickering.Worlds Weary by J. M. Perkins – Nice tale of a dimension-hopping demon hunter who lands on Earth and demonstrates why he’s survived to be the last of his kind.Geremian/Ezekiel: The Truce by Marc Sorondo – Earth’s last hero, ruler of the planet, and its last villain, a demonic agent of chaos, join forces to battle a tentacled invader from another universe. Strong characterizations of a super-hero and a super-villain who have reached unimaginable levels.Aeolus, Chiron, and the Sea Serpents by John A. McColley – A unique super-hero team of true friends in a steam punk world face death when battling with a hydra which is not what it seems. Clever and charming.Katsuo Battles the Waira by David J. Fielding – A bittersweet tale of an aged, homeless former hero making a last stand.Up In the North Slope by DJ Tyrer – A flying hero and his fireball partner come to fight vampires in an isolated Alaskan town. However, they discover more than they bargained for when a giant monster proves to be a potential disaster for them both.Demoneater by T. Eric Bakutis – A very original idea – a hero who must conquer and eat demons to subdue them. An engaging conflict – his brother has been taken over by too many demons and must be vanquished. Too easy a resolution – Grieftaker he rescues from his brother comes to his aid and shows him how to deal with his own internal demons.Tamperproof by Zoe McAuley – Although I worried about a monster-hunting therapist dragging a small boy to a battle with an unearthly creature, I enjoyed this story a great deal. The boy’s sister is missing, but no one remembers she ever existed. The therapist, instead of recommending to the parents that the boy be medicated, explains to him that monsters are eating people, not only their bodies but memories of their existence. She knows this because she herself is “tamperproof” and kept her memories of her husband when he was taken. The boy shows her where his sister disappeared, and – after dissolves the memory-sucker with an acid gun – vows to become a tamperproof warrior when he’s older. Amazingly consistent voice of a ten-year-old.Holding Action by Matthew Baugh – Every couple of stories, I think this the best story in this anthology, but I suspect this one really is the best one. When I finished reading it, I felt as satisfied as if I’d read a good novel. An augmented soldier is released from prison to fight monsters on another Earth. He fights alongside a colorful band (including Hercules!) but when the higher powers decide this new Earth is too far gone, he has to decide what to do. Influencing his decision is this world’s version of his dead wife. Grooge by Derric Miller – Another story from a child’s POV, but much darker. A small boy sees a strange creature whispering words of despair and suicide to his mother. His mother kills herself while trying to drown her son in the bathtub, and he makes a vow to kill the creature when he’s grown. The Falcon – An Outlier Story by Jonathan Ward – A real page-turner, here a police sergeant investigates a murder by an alleged vigilante but discovers her own dark past at St. Vincent’s orphanage for vulnerable children. Who is the Falcon and why does the murderer and thief seem so familiar. For a Fistful of Diamonds – An Outlier Story by A. R. Aston – This story is written in the same world as “The Falcon” and even mentions him. This is a strong story of what happens when absolute power corrupts absolutely. A reluctant flame hero fights Super-Barbie when she decides she can take and kill whomever she wants. The Beast in the Beauty – An Outlier Story by Jams Fadeley – Again, this story written in the same world as Falcon and Fistful describes a set of identical teenage twins with mental powers. One can perform telekinesis and one can read minds. Unfortunately, the TK twin is ridiculed in high school and her darker side (the Beast) takes over. The mind-reading twin, who has protected her more violent sister all her life, takes her place when the police arrive. A couple of government agents arrive to recruit her into a crime-fighting organization, knowing which twin she really is.

Grooge ain't Disney By Mark Allen While this anthology was enjoyable for the most part, I did find many of the stories a tad "light" for my literary tastes, when tend to run the gamut from "dark" to "pitch black." Thankfully, one of the stories--"Grooge," by Derric Miller--brought the darkness in spades. I mean, a mother trying to drown her son and then killing herself instead? A son's vow to hunt down the creature that caused the suicide and exact revenge? Yeah, we're not talking Disney stuff here. The whole collection is only $2.99, but even if you only got "Grooge" for that price, it'd be money well spent.

I did not love this story, it was not bad but it was far from great. The characters were not very developed but with it only being 29 pages long I understood. My main dislike was at how fast the main characters jumped into bed. I am all for hot and steamy sex scenes but within what felt like five minutes of meeting each other and exchanging names, Alyce/Alice/Alison propositions Donnan. All in all my big issue was how short the book really was, it ended very abruptly for my liking.

It was so romantic, with that I wanted to be the leading lady and experience what she has experienced. I really recommend this one for those who are hopeless romantic.

This book reminds me of "Good to Great". It's the book how to take your small business to the next level. It has 3 parts, people, time & money. For me, the most difficult part is always to manage "people". Author gives ideas insights into hiring, training and retain great employees. My favorite part is the last part, which is like mini CPA session with your best CPA and more, how to set budget, credit line, business structure. What numbers to watch for and look at and monitor daily, monthly. This is a must read if you want to run your business smoothly, maximize profit, efficient and be the "professional" instead of running a half-hazard mom & pop store. Highly encourage every one who owns a business, or want to own a business. Or just simply want to improve your personal finance to read this at least TWICE. Best is to read it, make a to do list, then go back and revisit after you finish your list.

By Zadeleine I watched some of Dr. Howard Farran's videos on dental practice management a year ago. Liked his style of teaching, the ability to see the big picture throughout the industry, attention to details, transparent in sharing his own success, humourous like a stand-up comedian. This book he wrote is just like how he spoke in those videos but added more breadth and depth, structures and concepts, purpose and meaning of why he does what he does, in terms of from running a successful multimillion-dollar business to owning an enterprise of a few influential entities, giving seminars across the world, interviewing hundreds of leaders in the dental industry. I see a true leader, a great teacher and an apparent visionary in his book and he's showing no sign of slowing down. May God continue bless him.The book is composed of 3 themes. In the people section, I learnt about the concept of player A,B,C,D,E. In the time section, I learnt about streamline the pt experience in the office and how effectiveness abd efficiency come into play. In the money section, which is the least understood theme for a regular dentist, he shared candidly what the key elements and data are to minitor the health of a dental business. At the end of the book, he didn't just stop there by teaching us how to be financially accomplished. He talked about our purpose as a humanbeing on the planet, that is to care for the less fortunate and give back to the society even internationally. This is a business book one can trust, especially it goes beyond the scope of practice management and well into the purpose of life which inspires the readers to leave their own legacy on the planet earth just like the author himself. A must read!

I'm Always trying to improve my practice. I took a 300k PPO practice in 2008 to a 2 million practice fee for service in 2015. Doing a great deal of everything you mention in your book but I'm still trying to improve.

Questions surrounding the relationship of Scripture and doctrine are legion within the Protestant tradition. How can doctrine develop over time and maintain fidelity to the sacred text, especially for communities who cling to the Reformation principle of sola scriptura? Does not an appeal to contemporary, constructive theology belie commonly held Protestant and Evangelical convictions about the sufficiency of Scripture? Does admission and acceptance of doctrinal development result in a kind of reality-denying theological relativism? And in what way can a growing, postcanonical tradition maintain a sense of continuity with the faith of the New Testament? This study is an apologetic for the ongoing, constructive theological task in Protestant and Evangelical traditions. It suggests that doctrinal development can be explained as a hermeneutical phenomenon and that insights from hermeneutical philosophy and the philosophy of language can aid theologians in constructing explanatory theses for particular theological problems associated with the facts of doctrinal development, namely, questions related to textual authority, reality depiction, and theological identity. Joining the recent call to theological interpretation of Scripture, Putman provides a constructive model that forwards a descriptive and normative pattern for reading Scripture and theological tradition together.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A Must-Read in Theological Hermeneutics By jahollingsworth89 This work is a must-read for anyone interested in theological hermeneutics. In The Defense of Doctrine, Putman sets out to provide an intellectually stimulating, yet readable, apology for why Evangelicals should and must continue to develop new doctrines. He rightfully observes that post-canonical doctrinal development is best understood as a hermeneutical phenomenon. Using the descriptive theological hermeneutics of Anthony C. Thiselton and the normative theological hermeneutics of Kevin J. Vanhoozer, Putman shows precisely how doctrinal development is a hermeneutical endeavor, and how the explanatory power of hermeneutic theory and the philosophy of language can aid one in maneuvering doctrinal development issues such as interpretation and authority, religious language, and development and continuity. As a PhD student focusing on hermeneutic philosophy and theological method, I must say that In Defense of Doctrine is one of the best works I've read on theological hermeneutics. Anyone interested in this field of study, as well as anyone not interested in this field of study, would benefit from this book.

Dr. Rhyne Putman clearly expressed his high scholarly academia with practical applicability in the pages of In Defense of Doctrine. If you have ever asked the question, "Why do we need doctrine?," Dr. Putman eloquently answered with the stroke of his keyboard. The in-depth look into his hermeneutical methodology and doctrinal development proved that evangelical biblicism can be a coherent, consistent theological and interpretive framework. I highly recommend this book to those ready to dive into the deep waters. I also recommend this book to those splashing in the shallow waters. For it is practical and challenging. Once I started reading, I could not put the book down.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Great Inteoduction to Doctinal Development By Cstanley This book was a great introduction to the field of doctrinal development. Putman writes in such a way that anyone, regardless of theological training, can pick up this book and understand what he is writing about. I would recommend this book to all Christians who want a better understanding of where the doctrines they believe come from so that they can better explain them to others and find a more efficient way to share their faith.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. What the mummer did and suffered By Edward Wright "Great paintings live to commemerate great painters; the statues of sculptors are their monuments; and books are the inscriptions of authors," mourned the late-19th Century actor Richard Mansfield, adding that an actor can leave no such testament. "Only the unseen spirit hovers in the wings ... what book will speak of all the mummer did and suffered in his time?" Mansfield's admirer Paul Wilstach sought to answer that challenge with his biography "Richard Mansfield: the Man and the Actor", published in 1908, a year after Mansfield's death. Mansfield died just as motion pictures were becoming popular, but he probably wouldn't have appeared before a movie camera anyway. He disliked being photographed in costume, though it must have been mandatory for publicity purposes: the book includes about 50 plates, most of them of Mansfield in his multifarious roles. Evidently not even his voice was recorded. (Interestingly, the early film career of John Barrymore included Mansfield's signature roles of Beau Brummel, Don Juan, and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.) Born in Berlin in 1857, Mansfield was the issue of an odd marriage between a London wine merchant Maurice Mansfield, "a short, portly little man with a ruddy complexion", and Erminia Rudersdorff, a somewhat intimidating prima donna acclaimed for her Ortud in "Lohengrin". It sounds like a classic misalliance, but obviously it was a successful love match; and Richard enjoyed a happy, cultured childhood. The boy was 15 when he followed his mother to America, and Mansfield spent the majority of his professional life here. His first hits were in plays that have long been forgotten -- e.g., "A Parisian Romance" and "Prince Karl". His reputation was well established before he approached Shakespeare, beginning with Richard III, later Shylock and Brutus. He never attempted Hamlet, believing that Edwin Booth's performance precluded any other interpretation. His reason for not essaying Macbeth is more reasonable: he could not find a beautiful actress with the seductive corruption essential for Lady Macbeth. (Ellen Terry was too mature by that time, and Vivien Leigh hadn't been born.) Mansfield's attitude towards his audiences was tolerant, though he deplored their ignorance. When he presented a dramatization of Booth Tarkington's "Monsieur Beaucaire" he dropped the "Monsieur" from the title, having learned earlier that American audiences simply couldn't pronounce that basic French word. And when Beatrice Cameron (the future Mrs Mansfield) appeared in "A Doll's House" in Philadelphia the theatre was full of children; patrons assumed from Ibsen's title that the play was a fairy pantomime. A man of aristocratic taste, Mansfield campaigned eloquently for a nationally-endowed theatre, arguing (among other things) that it would raise audience appreciation and expectation. (God knows what he would think of today's mass entertainment, evident in Reality TV.) Wilstach handles Mansfield's personal life discreetly, so we don't learn, for instance, of any relations with women before the actor's marriage at the age of 35. There is, however, a long chapter devoted to the imaginative letters he wrote his son while touring. The scheduling of tours was grueling, city after city after city, performing every night in productions that sometimes lasted from eight o'clock till midnight. (Both his "Henry V" and "Cyrano de Bergerac" were spectacles requiring enormous casts and sets.) And not only was Mansfield an actor, he managed his company and wrote at least one play, "Don Juan", which the company produced. His energy was tremendous, but it took its toll on his temper and his health. In his late forties Mansfield began suffering illness and increased debility, even interrupting a performance of "Richard III" to collapse temporarily backstage. He died at the age of 50 and was buried near his country estate in Connecticut. Here again Wilstach is vague, the final diagnosis never being mentioned. The book's one drawback is the author's overly sympathetic discretion. He was Mansfield's friend for the last ten years of the actor's life and the book is dedicated to Mrs Mansfield, but the prudence may be a reflection of the times. As the portrait of a man the biography is sketchy, but its depiction of an actor and the world he worked in is completely satisfactory.

Here you will find stories about people and events in Florida and the Caribbean -- so close to Cuba they call it Almost Havana. “Prepare to be astonished, prepare to be entertained,” says Evan H. Almost Havana, by F W Belland, Christopher C Belland

About the Author F.W. Belland and Chris Belland are brothers born in Miami, Florida, in 1944 and 1948 respectively. The brothers grew up in Miami when it was much different from the Miami of today. There was much more of a rural influence and, in fact, the home in which they grew up was on the very edge of what was the Everglades but is now a developed part of West Kendall. The neighbors around where they grew up were early pioneers of Miami and, in fact, their closest friends were the founders of Lemon City which eventually became the City of Miami. The grandfather was Captain Bob, one of the storied barefoot mailmen. After high school, the brothers took a divergent path. Fred went off to school and eventually graduated from Florida State University. He then did a stint with the Marine Corps in Vietnam. Chris went to the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, and moved back to Miami. In 1973, both brothers moved to the island city of Key West, Florida, where they were instrumental in restoring the center part of the downtown area on Duval Street, which is today a vibrant tourist destination in the state of Florida. All of the stories contained herein resonate from the rich history of early Florida and its close contacts with Central and South America. Today, Chris still lives in Key West with his wife, Piper, and Fred lives on the rim of a volcanic lake in Granada, Nicaragua, with his wife Nica and their two children.

An unexpected journey leads one woman to discover that life after loss is possible if only you can find the courage to let go.

One minute Tegan Lawson has everything she could hope for: an adoring husband, Gabe; and a baby on the way. The next a patch of black ice causes a devastating accident that will change her life in ways she never could have imagined.

Tegan is consumed by grief - not to mention her anger toward Gabe, who was driving on the night of the crash. But just when she thinks she's hit rock bottom, Gabe reminds her of their Jar of Spontaneity, a collection of their dream destinations and experiences, and so begins an adventure of a lifetime.

From the bustling markets of Thailand to the flavors of Italy to the ocean waves in Hawaii, Tegan and Gabe embark on a journey to escape the tragedy and search for forgiveness. But they soon learn that grief follows you no matter how far away you run and that acceptance comes when you least expect it. Heartbreaking, hopeful, and utterly transporting, Come Away with Me is an unforgettable debut and a luminous celebration of the strength of the human spirit.

One that starts with a devastating loss and the struggle to get it together to a story of finding your way back to each other through an adventure of a lifetime. How does one recover from an overwhelming loss? How does a couple stay together after such heartbreak? This story is a beautiful story of discovering yourself within a marriage once again. Finding a way back to one another. The struggles, the heartache, the happiness, the adventure. You will feel for them, you will cry with them and laugh with them. The details of this story are so vivid. Karma Brown leaves nothing to the imagination. She writes in delicate detail which will leave you transported to that place and time.I will say that the twist at the end left me shattered. I still can’t believe it.Totally surprised by this author, this story. A great debut novel. One you should read for yourself.Definitely a Must Read.

9 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Come Away With Me By Colleen T. Please excuse me while I gush a little bit (well, maybe a lot!) about Come Away With Me by Karma Brown. It has been quite a while since a book made me actually, physically cry...like big, fat, hiccup-inducing tears...but that is exactly what happened on and off as I read this story. The raw emotions these characters are experiencing are written so vividly I at times felt like I could feel their pain, anger, anxiety and hollowing sadness along with them. While this did bring about some strange looks from my husband and dogs I am so happy to have experienced these feelings along with Tegan. This is a story that will consume you, and in my opinion that makes one hell of a great read. After the accident Tegan can't seem to get out of her own head or see past her grief, and is so filled with an emptiness and livid anger that she can't help but want to hide away from the world and lash out at anyone who even attempts to get her to think about a time when she can start healing and moving on. While I have thankfully never experienced a tragedy like Tegan's, my son was born two months early and had to spend the first month of his life in the hospital. He is now a healthy, happy ten year old, but I will never forget going home from the hospital without him and the abject emptiness I felt the first time I walked through the door without him in my arms. Ms. Brown nails describing this feeling and made me instantly sympathize with Tegan and the myriad physical and emotional symptoms that come along with an accident like she experiences. As the story progresses the reader not only gets to go along with Tegan and Gabe as they travel to three dream locations but, disbursed throughout, are chapters that go back into Tegan and Gabe's life so we get to see how their love developed and the life they had been living up until the horrible accident. These chapters are filled with laughter and love, and if you haven't fallen a little in love with Gabe by the end I would be shocked. He is such a kind, patient person with Tegan and his careful treatment of her as they travel to Thailand, Italy and Hawaii was beyond touching. Oh, and be prepared to add these three locations to your bucket list, if you haven't already, because Karma Brown's ability to transport the reader made me feel like I was riding an elephant, taking a cooking class filled with ripe tomatoes and garlic and learning how to surf right along with Tegan and Gabe. She hits all the senses with a bang and I am now ready to put my backpack on and take off! There is a twist towards the end of the novel that actually made my heart start beating faster. I honestly didn't see it coming and it really hit me harder than I would have expected given the fact that these things weren't really happening. Regardless, I think it was perfectly done as it drives the story in a direction that will finally come to a conclusion with a sense of satisfaction and hopefulness. After all the tears I was very happy to come to this sort of conclusion!I can't recommend Come Away With Me enough, to anyone who wants to travel along on a sometimes sad yet always fascinating adventure with some unforgettable characters. The fact that this is Karma Brown's debut novel is astounding to me, and I can tell you that she has found a forever-fan in this reader.

9 of 10 people found the following review helpful. A beautifully written, heart-wrenching story of love and loss and hope By Susan Crispell Come Away With Me is a beautifully written, heart-wrenching story of love and loss and being brave enough to face what life throws at you. I worried at the beginning of this book that I wouldn’t connect with Tegan and her grief over losing her baby (full disclosure, I do not have a single mothering bone in my body so while I felt awful for her, it didn’t get me the way it will most women). But then her journey—both emotional and physical—began, and I was so caught up in it that it swept me right along with her to experience the painting elephants and fried crickets in Thailand, the gorgeous views and decadent pasta (and wine!) in Italy, and the rolling swells of Hawaiian waves. Everything in this book is vibrant, from the people Tegan meets in each country to her love story with Gabe—and her heartbreaking fighting with Gabe over the accident—to her depression that is so all-consuming at times that it feels like it’s happening to the reader too. And the story is so delicately woven together that when you’re done you want to go back and reread it in a whole new light.

Polly’s never known the thrill of being with a calm, sensitive and commanding lover. Other than in her dreams.

Polly’s administration role at Blakemore-Green suits her perfectly. Regular hours, an office of her own and a chance to user her super-organized mind. A little dull, perhaps, but she’s always been the kind to avoid too much excitement. Since her husband deserted her a year ago, she’s concentrated on getting the little things right and avoided any sense of adventure. William Blakemore owns the company, and he needs his secretary to be a little more alive and a little less focused on work. He needs someone who can serve him in ways that Polly’s only ever fantasized about. When her annual review comes around, he books a private room and an afternoon to train Polly to take him in the way he expects. Polly discovers that city men get what they want. Carefully and sensually, William takes all that he wants from Polly and makes sure that working together will never be quite the same again. Office Surrender is a collection of standalone short stories featuring Dominant men - and women who learn to submit.

It's time for her review and her boss has decided to treat her. She has her hair done and meets him at the hotel for dinner. But soon finds that he wants more. He wants a full-scale time secretary to service all his needs.
