What if those thoughts were stripped away? How would we react to those we hate or fear? In this story, people--children and adults--have certain memories stripped away, and their own identity as well, while their main personalities remain. What results is harmony. What will happen, though, when they regain all their memories? Will the experience have changed them, make them better, more understanding people? Or will they revert back to what they were?While reading it, it made me those of those suffering from real memory loss. I've heard and read so much about how the person's personality changes. A demure old lady suddenly cusses out those around her. Is this our true self? Do we repress who we are to survive or advance or hide in this world? This short story gives you much to consider about how we let "memories" rule us.

My initial thought was how can anyone explore the concept of identity, memory and preconceptions of oneself in such a short space?Vann does just that in a well thought out scene with children and adults in the full throes of the Metanoia programme. Although it is a sci-fi take on the idea of identity, When I Was Not Myself will make the reader think. Are we who we want to be? How do others perceive us? Is our identity really intact?Yes, this short definitely makes you pause for thought.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. A Unique Little Bio By A Customer Over a hundred years since it was first published, this is still one of the premier biographies of Grant. Whether that is a tribute to the superior merits of this book or the weaknesses of modern Grant scholarship is an interesting question. The value of Garland's book lies in the many interviews he conducted with people who knew Grant best, particularly his wife and sons. This generous use of first-person narratives scattered throughout the book has both pluses and minuses. While the universal faultiness of human memory has to be carefully considered when reading these recollections (some of which describe events that took place more than sixty years before Garland interviewed them,) there is nothing more biographically interesting than reading accounts of a person's life given by those who actually saw this life unfold. In fact, it's a pity no historian has thought to publish a book consisting only of the full texts of these many interviews Garland conducted, as the ultimate oral history of Grant. With proper annotation, it would probably be the finest book about him yet.One of my main gripes with this book--other than the caveat about the uncertainty that always surrounds old memories of the past--is Garland's writing style. I have never read any of his other works, but I am aware that he was a popular novelist in his day, and still commands a substantial cult following. This surprises me a little, because I find his prose style tends to alternate between leaden clunkiness and a prim sappiness ("There is a whisper to be heard, also, of a little maid living in those days whose face and voice had come to be very precious to Ulysses...") Such absurdly florid lines strongly suggest that at times Garland forgot that he wasn't writing one of his novels. Another drawback is that the book would have greatly benefited from footnotes--or, at least, more clues from Garland about which of his sources gave him what information.Also, rather startlingly, the section where Garland writes about Kate Lowe, a girl Grant knew when he was a West Point cadet, is plagarized from William Conant Church's 1897 biography! (Or did Church steal from Garland? Doris Kearns Goodwin, come home. All is forgiven!)All in all, however, it's still a book well worth reading for anyone with an interest in Grant--or anyone who wishes to develop one.

I am typically not a big fan of romance novels but this one is written in such a way that I thought that the author deserved a 5 star! After not being together for a while her stepbrother moved to her place they started to get closer and closer until the desire and passion couldn't stop them anymore. Nice story, a bit different than what I was expecting but well writing to get you into. The characters are well created to even feel identify with them.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great work. By Dedan I think the book is wonderful, it covers a looot of information on fasting, the theory of disease, food, and health. I think it is verbose. This is just a personal opinion, however, because I like to get the essence of things and teachings and run with it. I do not always like getting long, detailed, factual, repetitive information. BUT don't get me wrong, the book is fantastic, for learning and for future reference.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. WONDERFULLY WRITTEN!! By C. W. Lovatt The thing that struck me immediately about this book is how well written it is. As the title suggests, it is a latticework of fourteen wonderful stories, of everything from fantasy to thriller, written in both first person and third, in either gender, and they're all done very well. There's a confidence in Davidson's pen that is like a breath of fresh air, and is derived, I suspect, from an active and nimble mind. Whether it be something so short as "Stop." or the much longer, "Repeating History," each is written with a deep insight of the 'what if?' that carries the reader along, and does that most important thing that I look for in a story - leaves me with a long, thoughtful pause at the end.Clearly Davidson is a master storyteller. I can't recommend Latticework highly enough.

Get a complete story or story idea across in just 300 words. You'd think it would be easy, but it was the worst, and I hated such tasks! I never failed these assignments, nor did I excel at them.So kudos to all of the authors for putting themselves out there in a daunting exercise, and while only a handful read like “a complete story in 300 words” to this reader, most actually grabbed my interest the way a good “hook” in a full length novel would. In most cases, I could certainly wish for the “more” that I could sense beyond the assignment. Many are from authors whose works I have previously read, enjoyed and reviewed.The winning entries in the contest are clearly defined and certainly thought provoking. I do have a few shout-outs of my own; among them “The Florist” by Jon Keys, “Discovery of Death” by Toni Griffin and “A Veil to Change” by Princess SO. I think these stand out for me because they are the handful that struck me, personally, as most true to the assignment: a complete story in 300 words. These three really placed the scene, nailed the characters within the scene, and came to a definitive conclusion. And while there would still be room for that “more” I spoke of, the end was “The End”. If that makes sense…I particularly enjoyed a few offerings that were what I personally interpreted as a gateway to more, like “Salvage Rights” by Mindy Shuman, “The Black of the Night” by Pelaam, and “The Bloodrose Venture” by J.R. Frontera.Regardless, there is some serious imagination contained within these pages, and something I’m sure, to fire each individual reader’s own. And that’s what reading is all about.

Fenton If you want a quick five minute read before bed or whilst waiting for an appointment than this book is full of them and all of them are either sci fi, fantasy, or paranormal with an LGBT vibe.I am probably biased as I have a small story in this book but I will admit to the others being of a far better quality than my poor effort and well worth every penny you pay for it.

The stories are short - 300 words or less - and if you don't like one, there's another on the next page. And there are some great pieces in here!

19 of 19 people found the following review helpful. A Clear, Loving, Simple Way to Jesus By A Customer When I was on duty in southern Turkey, the base chaplain began a consecration to Mary. Not having heard of such a thing, I decided to give it a try. We used this small book for the entire consecration. We ended things up with a trip to Mary's house in Ephesus, Turkey, on August 15--the Assumption of Mary. Needless to say, making such a monumental consecration at the place where Mary rose to Heaven, on the very day, was incredible. I have since made the consecration each year, and am now reading deeper into Montfortian spirituality. Let this book be your guide to Mary and Jesus. It's inexpensive, simple, and pure. It combines excellent readings from Sacred Scripture, St. Louis's writings, and the Imitation of Christ.

Easy to read, this fable reminded me of Dune, with it's alien floaters and survival of the fittest plot. My take away after reading this is Will We Ever Learn? Is there Any Hope For Our Survival as a race? Or are we doomed to extinction? Maybe the new humans, the evolved humans have a chance at life?

Dystopian view of humans getting their just desserts - beingwiped out before they can do more damage to the planet. Mr. Itz gives us a protagonist not so much fighting for his life, as fleeing a resolute force that has taken it upon itself to 'cleanse' the planet Earth. The narrator's only goal is to stay under the radar ofthis force and somehow survive. He makes his way through forest and jungle, meeting fewer and fewer others along the way, learning to cherish and learning to let go. Hard to believe that the story takes such a grip in only a little over 50 pages. The suspense is suspenseful, the fear is palpable, and we are right there, finding our way with the doomed humans. However, this reader couldn't help feeling that the cleansing of the planet might not be such a bad idea. Highly recommended read.

Katt can see ghosts as she works with her boss Dimitri, who helps rid clients of these pesky poltergeists. Falling in love was not their plan, and letting anyone know about it was even further from their thoughts. When they come up against an evil apparition and unable to find it’s anchor, will their love help them find a way? I know the answer but you need to read this awesome series to find out!

When it comes to trading, there is no difference. In Doc Severson's book, Hacking the Holy Grail, he tells it like it is, explaining how the proper mindset and belief system of a trader is of utmost importance. Doc not only explains the "what" and the "why" of what you need. He delivers the "How". If you want to boost your trading to the next level, you are just 158 pages away from getting it done.

While there are no strategies explained here, there is much more important information on how to prepare yourself so that you can succeed. Everyone will be able to identify themselves in this book ang understand the steps you need to take to take your trading career to the next level. I highly recommend this book
