This anthology is all about time travel, a concept that represents much human potential: what we can learn about ourselves as we travel through time, what we would sacrifice in order to change things for the better or what perspective we gain from the past in order to secure a better future. This anthology represents all of those kinds of adventures and more as we see a wide variety of stories that can be told within this genre. We have six stories here that showcase that variety:Alesha Escobar’s “Logan 6” – In the future, Logan 6 is on the hunt for a murderer, Adam The Usurper, trying to capture him before he can wreak havoc on the future. Unsuccessful in his mission, he jumps back to the Time Access Chamber and talks to a confidant about unusual dreams he’s having and asks about previous time travelers who attempted to bring in Adam. The answer to this question propels the story in spellbinding and fascinating directions as Logan 6 struggles to change the future for the better, or so he thinks. Filled with many delightful twists and turns, with one surprise after another culminating into a final showdown filled with deliciously jaw-dropping revelations.H.M. Jones’ “The Light Storm of 2015” – Lifelong friends Ben and Gina hear a crazy theory about a light storm event in the sky that only occurs once every few thousand years. Researching it, they realize this might be the key to possibly time travel. As their relationship deepens and they bond over a shared tragedy, they decide to take a chance to see if the theories are true and take a plane into the air and fly into the anomaly. What happens next is an amazingly emotional journey about two people who try to bring someone else back to life, someone who is very important to both of them, superbly illustrating the hard choices they both make in the name of friendship and love.Alice Marks’ “End of The Road” – Five-year-old Maddie is visiting her grandmother and is captivated by a mysterious painting with unusual origins, a picture of a long road leading endlessly off into forever. One day, Maddie gets curious about it and discovers something about the painting that she never knew and travels down that endless road into a different time period in the past! At first, this trip is novel to her but the longer she stays there, the more she experiences a culture clash and finds a life very different and more difficult than what she’s used to. A well-written and intriguing cultural study as experienced through the curious eyes of a child that gets scarier as it goes, leading into a touching ending.Timothy Ward’s “Staring Into” – Andy first realizes time travel is possible when a mysterious scar appears on his neck that didn’t exist before. Once he discovers this, he thinks that somehow, time travel must be possible. Despondent over the death of his girlfriend, he thinks he might get a second chance to actually try to save her. In an attempt to change history, he has to overcome and battle his personal self-doubt and disregard what fate previously set out for him. A very innovative way to time travel is introduced and deftly explained here, while also ratcheting up the tension as the clock suspensefully counts down to the crucial moment when he learns whether the love of his life is saved. A captivating story where we’re truly invested in the end result of his efforts.Devorah Fox’s “Turning The Tide” – A novelist who’s had two husbands, Mike, who died of cancer and Ernie, who suffered the pain of a fractured family, thinks about whether or not she can turn back time. As an author who creates stories, she utilizes her skills and mentally concentrates on a convergence of tides in the Bermuda Triangle. Will Mike and Ernie get different destinies than the ones they were already given? A moving and compelling story of how the unpredictable ripples of time affect both men and how lives can be changed because of two small decisions and how it has an incredible impact on both their futures.Samantha LaFantasie’s “The Ghost of Time” – Agent Fogarty, Time Ghost, is pursuing a rogue time agent in the year 1986. Injured and trying to find her prey, she discovers more than she ever thought she would find when her prey is seemingly more than he appears to be. With some hazy memories and her mission goals now obfuscated, she tries to get to the bottom of the mystery of what’s truly going on. Thrilling and filled with intrigue, we wonder what the resolution will be with each perplexing clue Fogarty finds. Drawn into a situation more complicated than she anticipated, the action amps up and the stakes are raised, concluding with a surprising shocker that made me think about the story in a whole new way.Time travel stories can be tricky to write given the potential for paradoxes and confusion on the part of readers if it isn’t done right. However, the authors in this story were able to successfully bypass those pitfalls, as each story in this anthology packs an emotional and powerful wallop in their tales, finding creative, inspiring and enthralling ways to entertain me with their involving stories. =)Please note that I was given an Advanced Readers Copy of this eBook. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A Brave Anthology By Walki F Tinkanesh ‘The Time Machine’ by H.G. Wells was published in 1895. Towards the end of the 20th century, there was ‘Doctor Who’, a British TV series. The twisted ‘Twelve Monkeys’ was released in 1995. ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife’ by Audrey Niffenegger was published in 2003 and adapted into a movie in 2009. Around the same time, American TV series ‘A Town Called Eureka’ explored accidental time travelling and changing timelines. Now we also have a brave anthology entitled ‘Masters of Time’ to take us away and speculate.Missions are not always as they seem for time-travel agents, be they human or clone. A light storm can be more than colourful electricity. Children should be a bit wearier of some paintings. Bending time to save people might require sacrifices, and timing.In ‘Masters of Time’ the reader finds an interesting mixture of romantic love, filial love, teenage hormones, and the traditional science-fiction, mixed with a dose of manipulation, a pinch of mortality and the rewriting of time.‘Masters of Time’ is a captivating collection of short stories, diverse in genre and tone. It is an agreeable read for a rainy day and the last page will drop you with a cliffhanger just as the sunshine chases the clouds away.You will start wondering: What if…….Rating: 3.8 starsI was given a copy of this anthology in exchange for an honest review.

By Kimbie This collection short of stories deals with time travel, both in the future and in the past. I must say that I was impressed by the quality of the writing throughout the anthology. Each story presented a unique approach to the a well-worn genre and managed to not only take the reader to another time and place, but do it with imagination and on occasions, touching, emotional narratives that left me wanting more from the writer.I have kind of listed the stories based on my personal prefences.The story The Light Storm of 2015 by HM Jones, was a tale of best friends and their fascination with a light storm that only occurs every thousand years, and could be a time portal. Their reasons for going through it are truly touching and I was impressed by the quality of the descriptions of both character and setting.Another, rather short story, Turning the Tides by Devorah Fox, has a similar theme to The Light storm, but is told in a very different way. It reminded me of The Butterfly Effect, in that it deals with the dangers, or otherwise, of trying to change the past to influence the future. This was a truly touching story that had me thinking about it long after I read it.Again dealing with loss and the idea that a loved-one could be brought back, Staring Into by Timothy Ward, is more a journey of self-discovery than a physical time travel tale. I enjoyed the narrative style of Andy writing a letter to himself, it added to the drama of the piece. There is lots of tension and building of drama in this story, with his belief that he can travel through time by looking at a camera screen. Even though the action is restricted, I thought the concept a wonderfully imaginative way to deal with time travel.Alice Mark’s End of the Road, has a dream-like quality to it, at first. When a little girl becomes intrigued with a painting, she is able to step into it and is transported into the past. This story deals with culture and class issues very effectively, told through the eyes of a child, it has quite a chilling effect.Clones and time travel next with Alesha Escobar’s Logan 6. A clone sent to the future to exterminate Adam. A bit like Six Monkeys (Terry Gilliam Film) or I Robot, in terms of plot themes, this is a fast-paced mystery that throws up some interesting ethical questions about what constitutes intelligent life.The Ghost of Time by Samantha LA Fantasie is I suppose, a thriller/ mystery involving an Agent, January Fogarty, sent back in time to kill a target. She is thwarted in her attempt, rendered unconscious, and when she awakes discovers that she is not the only agent that has been sent and tricked. By whom? Ah well, that’s when it all gets a bit murky. I enjoyed the story and how it was written, but it was a little too vague as to who did what and why to whom. Although, it is a thoroughly enjoyable read.All of these stories are well worth a read. I would advise anyone who enjoys well-written narratives with twists, action, and emotion in the plotline, to get this book. Great stuff.
