It is intellectually stimulating and entertaining. As a Director of Christian Education, I see a lot of material come across my desk, and I always approach it with a critical eye. I am usually the person that people ask to edit their papers or take a first look at a project because I can pick work apart in a (kind) but thorough fashion. The only criticism I have for this book is that I wanted more. As someone with a tendency to stop reading before I finish a book or read the beginning and then end but skip the middle because I'm "over" the content, I am always surprised when I find a work that keeps me reading every word. I not only read every word of Chaos and the Kingdom, I found myself longing for more when I finished.

Eustis Full disclosure, I am a member of the United Church of Christ at Valley Forge and have participated in the group study in preparation of this book's publication. I have also read through it as an individual, so I can speak from both sides of the coin. This book is a very easy read, but at the same time it goes very in depth with the 6 Bible stories in the book. I especially liked the Rumination sections, where "the reader" asks questions and the authors answer. A lot of ideas about the Bible, God and Jesus are turned on their head. The questions at the end of each chapter are challenging and serve better in a group setting, but I certainly recommend it for an individual read as well. This book can serve as a great way to learn about God, Jesus and the Bible and help develop community in any church. Vissia and Bush have a viewpoint that is fresh and accessible, and as a recovering Catholic, has been a real eye-opener.

Not until I started attending a regular Bible Study group did I fully "get it." This book is written so well. It really focuses on the ability for groups to better understand the Bible verses, especially the confusing ones. Even our Pastor told us; "the Bible is meant to be read and understood in groups." So, I highly recommend Chaos & the Kingdom for those who (like me) are/were/could be confused. I have more clarity now.
