By Kellie Ann "State of Horror: New Jersey" is a wonderfully put together anthology that brings all thing "Jersey" in one spot. The different writing styles of the author that were chosen for this anthology are a wonderful mix of gory, sci-fi, horrific fun. Making this a recommended read for those who like a little variety in their reading.The different views on The New Jersey Devil folklore was very entertaining and interesting for me as a reader since i grew up with all the different scary folklore about the Leeds family. However, my favorite thing about this book (because i am from Jersey) is while reading the different stories, when they bring up the towns, 99% of the time I know where they are talking about and in some cases have been to those places (for example "The Boardwalk"). Now there is a story within this collection that I put above all the rest in this book, but i am not going to lead you to any prejudices and let you have you the chance to read this wonderful collection to find a favorite of your own

By Pheobe Petenstein Jackson This was a great book,What a collection of stories.I had also picked up the Audio book and went from one to the other when I was busy doing other things and couldn't sit and read. My mom was from NJ and we lived there for a while in the late 80's.This is a delightful collection of short stories,all entertaining and well written. Mr Jack Wallen did a wonderful job with narrating the Audio Book. He has the Jersey swagger and attitude down packed.A few of my favorite stories in the book were "Sweets for my sweet" By Margaret L Colton."Dying Days Charon" By Armand Rosamilia and "Pork Roll,Egg and Slease" By Frank J Edler,Memories of Her are Dead By Eli Constant.All the stories were great fun.There were a few typose but nothing to detract' from the stories. Well done putting this marvelous collection together. I have a few more of the books in this series to read,I am really looking forward to reading them soon.
3 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Definitely Worth the Price of Admission By S.H. Roddey I bought this book directly from the publisher at a convention in September 2014. It took me a bit to get to it (my TBR pile is more of a bookcase), but I'm glad I did. I read the entire collection in about two days. In the interest of full disclosure, no, it isn't perfect. But then again, no book is.As a reader, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The stories are interesting and unique, and for someone who has never spent any discernible amount of time in New Jersey, it gave me an interesting glimpse into the popular folklore and urban legends. The stories are a great mix of creepy and gory, and one or two even frighteningly poignant. My favorite story by far is the last in the book, "Memories of Her Are Dead" by Eli Constant. It's placement at the end is a perfect way to end the set.As an author, I saw issues. My biggest complaint is not in the formatting or grammar, but in content itself. There were one or two points where my eye twitched a bit due to a typo or glaring grammatical error, but in the end any errors were minimal and didn't take away from the story. Several of the stories disappointed me for the simple fact that they were too short. For example, Julianne Snow's "Under the Boardwalk" is brilliant and one of my favorites in the collection, but I wish it was longer. It could have easily been its own stand-alone novel. The first story in the book is a great, creepy idea, but it's probably my least favorite in the collection (for technical reasons, not story-based) and as a matter of preference I wouldn't have placed it first on the list.Ultimately I can't say there's a bad story in the bunch, and there wasn't a single one I can say I didn't enjoy. Overall this is a great collection to begin what promises to be a long-standing series, and definitely worth the price of admission.
