A Jordan Mayfair Mystery American architect Jordan Mayfair travels to Provence with visions of Roman ruins bathed in magical light, exquisite foods and wines, and ― possibly ― an alluring Frenchman. But she never imagined being chased across the French countryside for an Elvis recording, or being pursued through the narrow streets and ancient tunnels of Fontvieille, where missing Van Gogh sketches have started a frenzy in the village.

Review Jordan is celebrating her fiftieth birthday by traveling to France with her Uncle Alex. After she loses her suitcase at their first stop, she finds herself thrown into an international smuggling case involving a secret Elvis recording and the theft of Van Gogh sketches. Offsetting the rough stuff are the dynamics between Jordan and her friends and family, which provide humor and even some light romance. Gobbell brings the Provence backdrop to vivid life while dropping enough clues to keep readers focused on the mystery involved. Peter Mayle s Provence-set mysteries make ideal read-alikes, as does Alexander Campion s Death of a Chef (2013) and don t forget the 1995 film French Kiss, which also involves suitcases, smuggling, and romance. --Booklist STARRED REVIEW

From cover-to-cover, the reader is given just enough information to keep the interest piqued without giving away a single surprise turn of events (and there are several sprinkled throughout the narrative). Much like life in Provence, the story line moves along at a comfortable pace. This tempo gives the reader ample time to bask in the beauty of Provence and the imagination ample time engage all five senses—by book’s end, I could almost smell the lavender in the air!It is easy to connect with the protagonist, Jordan Mayfair. Even though the character is experiencing events that seem extraordinary, she does so with a depth of emotion that makes her seem very real. I could easily identify and relate to the motivations and mindset of the character.Pursuit in Provence is an excellent book to curl up with and allow it to take you to far away to this magnificent region of France. I can hardly wait to see where Ms. Gobbell will have our Jordan travel next!

The characters are quirky and delightful. From Jordan herself to her uncle to her family back home and the friends she meets on the trip, the people are well drawn, believable, and likable. I recognized many of them from my own experiences. There's just enough romance and humor to keep things interesting while the plot's twists and turns kept me up long after lights-out. And the setting! The setting is memorable and so well described that I vicariously traveled the French countryside enjoying the fabulous food and drink of Provence. I think I actually gained a pound or two just reading! Don't miss Phyllis Gobbel's debut novel and get ready for more Jordan Mayfield adventures!

Art, Avarice, and Murder By RWBourke A lost suitcase in a Brussels train station, a Georgia woman in distress, a Texas cowboy to the rescue: these are a few of the ingredients of this cozy. The cowboy is killed by a hit-and-run driver, and Jordan Mayfair is embroiled in a mystery whose tentacles reach into an art museum in Fontvieille and a recording studio in Nashville. Art, avarice, and murder, it’s all there, seasoned with intimate dinners in Paris, visits to ancient historical sites, and underground passages beneath Jordan’s hotel. Read this on a chilly evening while you're sitting before a blazing fire. Take it with you to the beach. Keep it beside you when you're in your car waiting to pick up the kids from dance class.
