Whilst still very much a product of a short story contest, what is different about this book from Aestas 2014, their earlier offering, is that they seem to have opened up their genre requirements a bit - there are a couple of suspense/horror stories in the book. Of the two, "Allure" by Andrew Mayne was particularly fascinating. I was also mesmerized by "Renewed Faith in Snow", and on checking their website I wasn't surprised to see that this was the winning entry. What did disappoint me a bit was that Grainne Murphy's "Full of Grace" did not feature in the top three list - it is a brilliantly executed, disturbing tale of despair and hope.In my personal opinion, eight of the stories are definitely a cut above the rest in the dozen. The boys at Fabula are doing well to bring some excellent but unknown authors into the limelight.Four stars!
