0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A marvellous collection of stories in a superb edition – very enjoyable By Erskina I agree with the other reviewer. What a fantastic book of stories. It is amazing that the writer has been completely neglected. His life story reads like an adventure novel and he packed more into it than Hemingway and Jack London put together. This volume brings together 30 of Morley Roberts’s very best stories and they are absolute gems. The introduction is first class and the footnotes very helpful and interesting. This must be one of the best editions of an unknown Victorian writer I have ever come across. I recommend this volume to anyone who likes Victorian or Edwardian literature and especially Edgar Allan Poe, Robert Louis Stevenson, Kipling, H. G. Wells, Somerset Maugham, and Joseph Conrad. Many of the stories are similar in style to those writers. There are sea stories, weird stories, humorous stories, tales of adventure in America and Australia, and tales of everyday life in the men's clubs and the foggy streets of 1890s London. I really liked “The Miracle of the Black Canon,” “The Anticipator,” “The Crowd,” “Jack-All-Alone,” “Captain Pasco’s First Cyclone,” and “The Fog,” and the articles in the appendix especially the one about how Roberts traveled half way around the world and contrived to meet Robert Louis Stevenson on his South Sea Island.

Wonderful Stories by a Fine Storyteller à la Jack London By August Kramer I had never heard of Morley Roberts before but what an interesting man he seems to have been. I wonder how many other forgotten writers there are waiting to be discovered. He wrote such a variety of stories and they are immensely entertaining. And this is an excellent edition with lots of fascinating biographical information about Roberts. His stories are set all over the world and based on his own wide experience of life. For he worked his way all over America, Canada, and Australia variously as a sailor, railway worker, miner, sheepman, boundary rider, and back in London worked as a civil servant in the India Office and War Office for five years. What a discovery! A great read.

About the Author Kalidasa, perhaps the most extraordinary of India s classical poets, composed seven major works: three plays, two epic poems and two lyric poems. According to legend, he lived at the end of the fourth century, and was one the nine jewels in the court of the Gupta king Chandragupta II. Although very little is known about his life, Kalidasa s popularity has endured for centuries. Srinivas Reddy began studying Sanskrit with his grandfather. Later he trained in classical South Asian languages and literatures at Brown University and University of California, Berkeley. In 2010 his translation of Krishnadevaraya s Telugu epic Amuktamalyada was published as the Penguin Classic The Giver of the Worn Garland. Srinivas is also a concert sitarist and has given numerous recitals around the world. He now lives in Ahmedabad and teaches at IIT Gandhinagar.

So much of our amazing literature would be lost if we did not have authors like Srinivas who can translate it so brilliantly and make it relevant to the current times.

The Perfect Blend of Organized Creativity for your Business By Nicky Howell This is a must have for any entrepreneur that is in any stage of their business! Natalie breaks the business planning process down so it is not overwhelming and gets you thinking long term about your goals and dreams for your business. Month by month, there is plenty of room to write down everything you need to make sure your business stays on the track you set. I have read countless business planning and entrepreneurship books during my journey through my MBA and starting my own business; and this is by far the best I have seen that makes it personal to you. Because it is. Natalie proves that she is excellent at what she does, which is encouraging creativity in a way that works and generates sales and growth. By Stacy Galiczynski As a writer, I have always had difficulty laying out my monthly plans and sticking to them. The sensitive open nature of the book and the early years of Bob Carr's life tell a beautiful and inspiring story that we can relate to and gain incite. Once I started reading "Through the Fires," I couldn't put in down.

Humanity will eventually adopt the author's principles written in all of his books. Currently, humanity lives in delusion that the system will continue to serve them. We will see massive changes even in the next decade. Don't waste your money on college--buy the author's books and succeed.

Also, an engineer's mental set and system level understanding of the world. As a systems engineer, those are what I find most lacking in discussing the modern world.CH Smith has been writing about economic and associated social issues for a long time. I first learned his name the day a friend of mine and I sent each other links to a blog post of his at the same time, both equally excited by the insight that explained what we had thought was very dumb behavior on the part of banks and fund managers. Both of us and several of our friends have read the blog daily since, and subscribe to his newsletter. I have exchanged email with him once in a while through the years, tho telling you that is me bragging."A Radically Beneficial World" is a fundamental analysis of what is wrong with the modern organization of the world and the institutions that organize it and a comprehensive plan to fix it. It does that, and I am impressed with the synthesis and understanding of the system-level constraints any solution has to meet, the avoided problems of scaling.It seems to me the insights that the current organization of the economy and associated financial institutions guarantees the results we are seeing, the poverty and unemployment, and guarantees that the situation will continue to get worse. The goal must therefore be to escape that, and avoid the structures and incentives that have FUBARed our world-system.I think the analysis and considerations of a community-based economy cover the main bases and leave more than enough flexibility to handle problems. Indeed, that is the strength of bottom-up, decentralized systems with information sharing, that is a strategy that guarantees the fastest-possible evolution and adaptation to changing conditions. The many people facing problems, the number of independent minds applying their ingenuity means one will find it as fast as it can be found. The internet makes that process very much faster because of the information and sharing of information and insights. It also spreads those faster than ever before.CHSmith's focus is on the creation of money, doing it within a system that naturally fosters communities and local trade, local generation of goods and wealth. I thought his system design was very good, something like that will naturally evolve, is evolving in fact. They are what is necessary to scale local trust and prevent central control of ourselves and our information as now exists.I just now understood the last bit, how this new local, community economy attaches to the larger economy. Yes, it works there, also. Same problem as bitcoins, but Smith's system-design takes care of all the problems with building an economy, not just payments.There are many pieces of that economy developing on the web, but Smith's is a complete design, what someone needs to look at when integrating components for real use in a community economy.My overall take is that the current big web companies are the last of the old economy, not the first of the new. Uber is a centralized system, Google, Airbnb, etc. ditto. Toast.

By Cristofer D Sheridan Smith tackles very large and hotly debated subjects with ease while drawing on a wealth of information packaged in his usual concise and colorful style (his example of the Jelly Bean Economy as an introduction to systems theory is a perfect case in point). Whether it's automation, the problems inherent in our current way of life, scalable web-based technologies, or a new model for the global economy, Smith ties it all together and provides a big picture view that is sure to make you think.
