Addison Schact and his best friend Digger become obsessed with investigating the murder of a classmate as they travel through Washington DC’s underworld in this “thoughtful coming-of-age story and engaging teenage noir” (The New York Times).

Soon to be a major motion picture starring Chloë Grace Moretz and Ansel Elgort!

High school senior Addison Schacht is taking the prompt for his college entry essay to the University of Chicago to heart: What are your best and worst qualities? He begins to look back on his life so far and considers what getting into college, selling some pot to his classmates, his relationship with his best friend―not girlfriend―Digger, Virgil’s Aeneid, and his growing obsession with the murder of a classmate, Kevin Broadus, all mean. The more he digs into his own past, the farther he stumbles into the middle of the murder investigation.

Filled with classic adolescent reflection and an intriguing mystery, The November Criminals is “one of the funniest, most heartfelt novels in recent memory―a book every bit as worthy of Mark Twain and J.D. Salinger” (The Chicago Tribune).

The November Criminals: A Novel, by Sam Munson

From Publishers Weekly Munson's funny, stoner-friendly debut follows high school senior Addison Schacht as he stumbles through the Washington, D.C., teenage underworld to investigate a classmate's unsolved murder. Schacht—a small-time pot dealer, consummate anti-social, and Jewish collector of Holocaust jokes—makes for a poor but entertaining detective, and when he places a stoned phone call to his prime suspect, Addison and his friends become caught up in the mystery he set out to solve. As Addison's sleuthing begins to unravel and his life crumbles along with it, his ramblings offer an interesting counter to, and often context for, his misguided attempt to discover the truth. Munson keeps things lightly dark, though his weakness for wandering asides—Addison is just as likely to riff on the Aeneid, Latin syntax, or his favorite movies as he is to discuss his investigation and efforts to outsmart the police—trips up the pace, even if they are what one would expect from a self-absorbed adolescent. The plotting could use some work, but Munson nails the voice. (Apr.) Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

From Booklist In response to a college-application question, high-school senior Addison produces this scathing mea culpa, which takes the form of a rambling, first-person rant. He’s a pot dealer who prefers to keep acquaintances at an arm’s length—his suppliers, customers, father, and even Digger, a girl who would be his girlfriend if only that had been part of their agreement. After a classmate falls victim to an apparently random homicide, Addison begins an obsessive investigation. His outer blankness of character (I have no personality to speak of, he insists) conceals a hyperintelligence that recklessly leads to a (rather hilarious) midnovel assault on the apparent killer. The book has every earmark of a debut—bratty, precocious, tangential, and in love with its own voice—yet Munson ably reminds us why such qualities are irresistible in the first place. Even his overreliance on italics reflects the fanaticism of a high-school brainiac. The plot’s second half meanders, but if you buy into the voice, the retarded story (as Addison puts it) will be of secondary concern. --Daniel Kraus

Review Addison Schacht, the conflicted hero of The November Criminals, is less interested in committing a crime than solving one. And though no one in the admissions office at the University of Chicago has asked Addison to discuss the murder of his high school classmate Kevin Broadus, he uses the application's essay assignment ('What is your best quality? What is your worst quality?') as a chance to get some things off his chest. The result is no tidy, eager-to-please essay but a book-length spiel - concerning, among other things, Virgil's Aeneid, Holocaust jokes, dope dealing, friends with benefits, classic cinema, adolescent ennui, Latin grammar and syntax, Jewish numerology, anti-Semitism, struggles with guilt, the hypocrisy of liberal politics, race relations in the United States, the philosophical downside of living in D.C. and, oh yeah, who killed Kevin Broadus... The November Criminals is both a thoughtful coming-of-age story and an engaging teenage noir. Think of it as an existential murder mystery for the stoner pre- college set - Keanu Reeves's River's Edge, as written by Camus... Munson is a writer with something to say; and if saying it slows the pace, well, given the brash voice of this audacious new writer, I wonder if he'd have it any other way. The NEW YORK TIMES Munson is a freewheeling stylist and expert mimic, having installed in his narrator, with dead-on accuracy, the highly developed tragic sense that only an over-privileged 18-year-old can effect without irony... As a general rule, book publicists who make breathless comparisons to Holden Caulfield should be caned, but [...] Schacht really is Holden's amoral 21st-century cousin: He shares the profane slanginess and the petulant self-righteousness of Salinger's famous malcontent. The WASHINGTON POST Sam Munson's first novel ... has the inventive, expansive flare of Michael Chabon's best writing and the highbrow-crime intrigue of a Donna Tartt book. The story is a classic coming-of-age tale: getting into college, smoking dope, navigating best-friendship with someone of the opposite sex - oh, and investigating a classmate's murder. VANITY FAIR A clever debut starring a stoner, Gen Y Holden-like teen. Sam Munson's debut novel, narrated by Jewish stoner teen misanthrope Addison Schacht, nails the adolescent voice perfectly while leading us through his stumbling attempt to solve a mystery. Addison's witty, wandering asides reference everything from the Aeneid to Latin syntax to his favourite movies, as he finds himself right in the middle of the mystery he's been trying to solve. The DAILY BEAST In The November Criminals, Sam Munson - a writer of spectacular talent - delivers a hugely entertaining read as well as penetrating social and political commentary ... Munson has written elsewhere about the difficulty he experienced trying to inhabit the mind of 'a full-bore, professional-grade a**hole.' But he needn't have doubted, for a moment, his substantial empathic gifts, which rival Bellow's and Roth's ... Munson has written one of the funniest, most heartfelt novels in recent memory - a book every bit as worthy of Mark Twain and J. D. Salinger - about the goodwill and decency that sometimes shrouds itself in adolescent vulgarity and swagger. The CHICAGO TRIBUNE In response to a college-application question, high-school senior Addison produces this scathing mea culpa, which takes the form of a rambling, first-person rant ... His outer blankness of character ("I have no personality to speak of," he insists) conceals a hyper-intelligence that recklessly leads to a (rather hilarious) mid-novel assault on the apparent killer. Munson nails the voice. PUBLISHER'S WEEKLY Oh, oh, oh. OH! The November Criminals is funny. I started laughing as I read page one and I was still laughing on the very last page ... The whole thing captures the adolescent voice perfectly. Addison wanders about, being disaffected, ridiculously self-aware, rude, self-centred and generally as obnoxious as privileged teenagers can be. It's all very Holden Caulfield but it's not just that: the murder storyline is based on real events. It's wordy and witty and clever. And as up itself as Addison is up himself. You might think that sounds like a criticism but it's not; it's a compliment. I'll say it again. The November Criminals made me laugh. Lots. And that makes it all right by me TheBookBag.co.uk Munson has created a wonderfully sharp, sardonic and engaging protagonist in this black comic take on 21st-century adolescence. Sydney Morning Herald, Pick of the Week If you swear by The Catcher in the Rye, you'll love it. The Stoke Sentinel Addison Schacht is a rebellious, smart high school senior in Washington DC ... What distinguishes this novel is Addison's distinctive voice. It can be rambling, colloquial, verbose, smug, precocious or extremely entertaining. Just like a teenager, in fact. Daily Mail [November Criminals] has the authentic Holden Caulfield tone, updated for the 21st century, like The Catcher in the Rye crossed with The Wire ... one of the pleasures of the novel lies in Addison's witty, worldly prose style, which contrasts comically with how he actually speaks ... His quest to find meaning from Kevin's death plunges him into eloquent darkness and great peril. Self Indulgent By JournalStone I know I am in trouble with a book when I find myself counting how many pages I have left to read in order to cross the finish line. Sadly with "The November Criminals" that was the case. I never could relate to this book, the main character or what the author was trying to convey. It reads like an egotistical kid who is so full of himself he doesn't care whether his story is worth telling or not. In several examples Addison (the main character) actually tells us we don't want to hear something, and then commences to tell us anyway. I think he should have taken his own advice on occasion, and kept quiet.Addison is in high school, and a fellow classmate is gunned down while working at a local coffee shop. He is a pudgy fat kid, who we later find out has some secrets. Addison becomes obsessed with the killing and spends countless hours mulling over the details in the hopes of figuring out what happened. He drags along his best friend, Digger, who he happens to have casual sex with on a regular basis. I should correct myself here, since Addison proclaims he has no real friends, Digger must be some sort of sex therapy confidant. As we meander through Addison's life we find out his mother was killed and he is being raised by his father, who isn't a bad guy, but doesn't seem to realize Addison is even around most of the time. The poor dad can't even find the time to go grocery shopping, but he does manage to bang one of his students on occasion. He is a college professor. Addison is pretty self sufficient though, and has been working his own business for a couple of years. He is quite the drug dealer, racking upwards of 12K in profits at his high point. Thanks to a lucky bet on a dog fight towards the end of the book, he actually holds close to 18k before he ends up letting the money go. Ironically he doesn't even want the money. I am not sure this lost character has any idea what he was looking for.The writing is well done but the words don't seem to form any well conceived notion of what a high school kid might really be like. I found the entire story hard to believe and even when I could believe it, I found myself not really caring. It almost read like the author and main character were writing the story just to hear themselves speak. Self indulgent were the two words that popped into my head continuously throughout the entire book. I couldn't begin to figure out what the purpose was, but it didn't seem to be for entertainment. So while this might be the harshest review I have ever written, I can say that the author has loads of promise, and I think if he decided to write a less egotistical story he would be able to weave something fantastic. I would be willing to read his stuff again due to his potential alone, but I wouldn't force myself to finish the book if it ended up being another self indulgent walk down kiss my ass lane. You have to care about your reader to a certain extent; they are the people that will potentially be buying your book after all.Tough book to read, but I did finish it. Hopefully his next endeavor will be a little more conscious of his audience.

Elsner The book jacket accompanying this novel sets high expectations, evoking comparisons to Holden Caulfield and Huck Finn no less. The portrait of the author, which shows a prematurely balding young man smiling smugly with a cigarette hanging out of his thin lips at a jaunty angle, also presumably makes a statement. The book itself tells the story of Addison Schacht, a high school senior who peddles drugs to classmates and his best friend (not his girlfriend) Digger. Addison lives in Washington DC and attends a gifted program at his local high school. He becomes obsessed with the murder of a classmate whom he hardly knew and mounts an inept investigation of his death that turns dangerous. For a novel like this to fully succeed, the voice of the protagonist has to be truly compelling. Many people have written about adolescent disaffection and the struggles of bright young men who don't quite fit in to make some sense of the world. Addison, for me, didn't quite make it. He's a bit nerdy but not exactly a nerd, a bit of a misfit but not exactly a misfit. After all, he has his drug business and his not quite girlfriend who provides regular sex as well as scintillating companionship. Ultimately, Addison comes over as a know-it-all whiner -- a spoiled kid in rebellion against something, but he's not sure what. There's a slightly unpleasant air of superiority about this book and its narrator -- the same sense I gained from the photo of the author. That said, I still enjoyed the book and valued the glimpse it gave me of the generation it depicts, which like the author must already be approaching its thirties. Some local angles struck me as false. I take the Washington Metro every day and it's never smelled of urine as the author would have it.Munson has talent and needs to keep writing. Now that he's gotten his adolescent angst or rage or whatever it was out of the way with this book, he can grow up and give us a more mature consideration of the world in his next book.

Labbe I bought this book and read it based on a reference to one of its passages--about the excitement of studying Latin at the college level. Unfortunately, this passage appears late in the book, and there were very few others that are as engaging. The only ones that grabbed me were the character's musings on the Aeneid. The most off-putting aspect is the tedious, rambling style. Many people, when speaking, use like every other word, but you don't need to copy this way of speaking verbatim for so long in a novel. Pages of dialogue with like like like. In sum: the book is 258 pages, and is supposed to be a college entrance essay. The main character simply is not interesting enough to last so long. Should have been a long short story of about 50 pages at most.

Leadership Dubai Style: The habits to achieve remarkable success, by Dr. Tommy Weir

From the Author Leadership Dubai Style started with my own curiosity. After arriving here in late 2006, I wanted to know how, exactly, Dubai's leaders lead. What were their secrets? Being a student of leadership my entire professional life, I had to know: Was there a model that others could replicate?   So to answer my own intellectual curiosity, which is deeply related to my academic expertise, emerging-market leadership, I started my research.    I must admit, the book that I wrote is very different from the one I set out to write. Originally, I was going to write about the businesses in Dubai. Then after the 2008 Global Financial Crisis, I dug deeper into the history of Dubai and discovered that Dubai's leadership style hasn't just occurred over the last decade: it's been implemented since the inception of Dubai. This discovery altered the course of my research, forcing me to take a holistic look at the history of leadership in Dubai. This extended the research phase, making the findings comprehensive rather than generational. In the end, Leadership Dubai Style shares the leadership habits of the Al Maktoums that have spread into Dubai's overall leadership--in other words, habits that are widely emulated.

It is a matter of history that, at or near the beginning of what has since come to be known as the Christian era, the Man Jesus, surnamed the Christ, was born in Bethlehem of Judea. The principal data as to His birth, life, and death are so well attested as to be reasonably indisputable; they are facts of record, and are accepted as essentially authentic by the civilized world at large. True, there are diversities of deduction based on alleged discrepancies in the records of the past as to circumstantial details; but such differences are of strictly minor importance, for none of them nor all taken together cast a shadow of rational doubt upon the historicity of the earthly existence of the Man known in literature as Jesus of Nazareth.

Jesus the Christ, by James E. Talmage

About the Author James Edward Talmage was 13 years old when his family emigrated from their native England and settled in Provo, Utah. Intelligent and thirsty for knowledge, James was a part-time member of the faculty of the Brigham Young Academy in Provo, Utah, by the time he was 17. He went on to study chemistry and geology at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania and at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Membership in many prominent scientific societies gave James Talmage access to important people and publications and helped him combat much of the prejudice faced by Latter-day Saints at the time. In 1888 he married Mary May Booth. They became the parents of eight children. From 1894 to 1897 he was president of the University of Deseret in Salt Lake City (now the University of Utah). During that time he bought one of the popular new chain-driven bicycles and rode it often. One evening he arrived home an hour late for dinner, bruised, bloodied, and dirty. Near his home was a single-plank bridge across a ditch. Normally, he dismounted and crossed on foot. But this time he felt he could ride across. He kept at it, crash after crash, until he mastered the maneuver. Elder Talmage was an effective lecturer, and some of his talks and lessons became the basis of some of the books for which he is well-known, including The Articles of Faith. Prior to his call to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1911, the First Presidency had asked him to write a book on the life and ministry of the Savior. Later, a room was set aside in the Salt Lake Temple where Elder Talmage could concentrate on his writing. His 700-page book, Jesus the Christ, was published in 1915 and has been reprinted several times since then.

Lust over Love any day of the week. Lust has always been the emotion of choice; love nothing more than a silly game played by delusional fools. Lisa Parks has been successful at everything she touches, her confidence her calling card. A recent move to Maine from New York is just the change of atmosphere she needs for a fresh start. With far too many mistakes in her past, her eyes remain focused on loving and leaving, her actions justified by far too many cracks in her damaged heart. Marc Martin is living the dream, his college being paid for and his sights set on great things. In a quick turnaround trip to help his older sister Kari move to Maine after heartbreak, Marc meets the woman that just might be his match. Lust has been a reoccurring theme in his life, and he has no plans of changing that. He is young and free, handsome and ready to set the world on fire, and finds that he is justified in breaking hearts everywhere he goes. Besides, love is a game played by many and truly won by few. No way would he ever consider settling down or letting someone into his heart. That is… until he meets Lisa. COMPLETE STORY - HEA. ** 18+ Explicit sex scenes & foul language.

There should have been a warning that tissues were going to be needed. I decided to read this today at my desk at work and boy was that a mistake I'm sure that my co workers were wondering why I was crying, not a nice thing to do to a girl Ali. Please, please take the time and read this book, it will leave you gutted and fingers crossed for the best for Lisa and Marc. The story in this book is very well written and the plot is very well developed and is so fast paced that you will not know whether you are coming or going or just somewhere in between. The characters in this book, Marc and Lisa, oh what can I say about them other than so hot together, but I'm not 100% they are going to work. While reading this book that saying "love something set it free and if it was meant to be then it will come back to you" was in the back of my mind the whole time.In this book we Lisa pining for Marc even though they had decided that a relationship between them was not going to work as she is living in Maine with a business and he is still a young pup going to college. In this book we will see Lisa decide that she needs to go to new York and sort out her feelings for Marc as she is now ruined for all other men as she cannot get past Marc. In this book we will also see Marc lay it all on the table and tell Lisa that he wants a relationship with her. This book will leave you heartbroken and wanting book two as much as I do, I need to know what happens, hurry up Ali Parker.BOOK TWOReceived a copy from the author for an honest review....Ali Parker, what are you doing to my emotions, I don't know if I will be able to read book three, as book two as literally torn my heart to shreds. The story in this book is very well written and developed and the plat is fast paced and with so many ups and downs that you head will be spinning by the end and your heart will be broken. The characters in this book are very well written and i cant enough of Lisa and Marc, I'm just wishing that these two would get things right as these two have the most amazing chemistry. In this book we see Lisa trying to move on after leaving Marc in New York knowing that she loves him but she is so afraid that she doesn't know how to love just a little bit. In this book we also see Marc come to Maine to get the girl, he knows what he wants. In this book we also see Lisa finally admit that she loves Marc and things are going great till Michael Carrington walks into Lisa's office after hours.I am hoping that book three gives me what I want for Marc and Lisa.BOOK THREE Was given a copy of this book by the author for an honest review....The story in this book is very well written and well developed and the plot is fast paced and flows nicely throughout the whole book. The characters in this book are very well written and so easy to call in love with and hurt along with.In this book we see each Marc and Lisa fight the feelings that they have for one another thinking that they would be better off with someone else. As each of them try to move one with someone else they each find their minds drifting back to what they had together, so basically they are ruined for any one else. Will Marc and Lisa find their way to each other or will they forever remain alone??Wow what an amazing ending for Marc and Lisa's story. Cant wait for the next set of stories for Lisa and her friends.

Together with Lisa and Sicily, Kari is a roommate who has moved from New York to Maine to start their new lives. Marc helps them move in a previous serial titled JADED.This story begins with Marc and Lisa both upset that they cannot forget each other. They had decided when they saw one another last that they would not pursue a relationship since they lived too far away. Only thoughts keep appearing at the worst time. The chemistry is just so strong between them.Lisa is mad because she does not believe in love. Marc is just a man, who is too far away, and really seriously HOT! She tries to get together with other men, and Marc is who she is thinking of.Lisa and Marc are both suffering in this story. They have agreed not to see one another since they live so far away and want different things for the future. After Marc goes back to NYC, then they both notice the emptiness and pain that it causes.Lisa is used to being with the guys she chooses and suddenly all she can think about is Marc in the bedroom. Same for him, when he goes to have girls who blatantly want him - all he can think about is Lisa. They are both mad this upsets their routines and then they realize what it could be.Kari - feeling very put in the middle - tells Marc to come visit and see if he can repair this. She sees how it is effecting them both and thinks it is a simple fix. Is it? If it is real love how to solve the distance between them?Marc is so restless and feels like his life has no meaning. When we last saw him, he had walked in on Lisa kissing someone else after promising to try a new relationship with him. He has found that he is not interested in anyone else. What used to be fun, like parties and more, is no longer appealing.Their friends try to help. They encourage the couple to try again. Start with communication and maybe try to talk in the same city. They also recommend being patient. Neither one of them has really even started a relationship before and it is new.Amazing story and such a page turner! I could NOT put this down!! I loved the banter, the sexy times, and so much more.***This ARC was given from the author for review purposes only.

By Hurricane Girls Book Blog (1) Part 1 1Loved this story. What a great start! We first Meant Marc and Lisa in the jaded story Briefly. Marc is The Little Brother and Lisa is the bff. and this is their story. Marc and Lisa are players. They typically just have Sex and leave but these two have an attraction towards each other. what the hell they don't go love. They agree to just be friends but they are going insane with out each other. Lisa leaves Maine to return to New York to go see him. A couple hot scenes and they can't get enough. Marc realizes he is in love but is it enough to convince Lisa that they need to give this a try or will she push him away?Omg Part 2 Starts out with Marc not being able to get Lisa out of his mind.he wants more and she doesn't or does she? What has this woman done to him? She just left and said she wants nothing to do with him. Marc has to see her.. So he gets the bright idea to fly to Maine after her.. IS THIS A GOOD IDEA?Lisa is Afraid! She wants Marc, but she doesn't need love, love is Messy and it changes you. How is Marc finding his way into her Heart? She leaves new york to get away but what happens when He follows her? Will she give into him and the idea of love or will she push him away? Or will something else happen in the process? Remember book one the sexy rich guy....Will Marc an Lisa be together an get apast there issues or will they fail?Part 3 starts out with Lisa upset and Hating that Marc didn't give her a chance to explain what he saw and feels that Marc doesn't want anything to do with her and maybe it is for the best..Marc is struggling. How could she do this? He thought they had agreed to make this work? Try the whole Love thing! Was he wrong? How could she cheat? But he can't get the fiery Red head out of his mind. One night he tried but fails miserably. He talks to this woman and she actually convinces him that he needs Lisa. He will give it a few weeks and see what happens and go get her.But what happens when she shows up there? Will he trust her? Will she make him see the truth about that night or will they just go back to their ways of only lust and forget love all together?OMG, the ending is absolutely amazing.it's a definite must read.. love it and can't wait for more from Ali.. The Leader’s Guide to Coaching & Mentoring is a highly practical handbook that helps managers get the most out of their people. It includes grounded advice on the practicalities of both coaching and mentoring – such as how to structure a session – as well as core content on:

·    The skills required for coaching and mentoring,  including listening, questioning, observing body language, challenging and affirming

·    The established processes for coaching and mentoring, such as GROW, relational coaching, reverse mentoring and solution-focused coaching

·    The scenarios in which coaching and mentoring skills are particularly appropriate, for example, coaching under-performers, coaching star performers and coaching for career development

There is also a handy section on the 10 pitfalls to avoid when coaching or mentoring.

Written in the no-nonsense and engaging style of the other Leader’s Guide books, this is the best tool on the market for managers wanting to coach their people to optimum performance.

'In this hands-on book, Mike and Fiona highlight the real difference between conventional management and effective leadership: management is a profession, while coaching is much wider; it encourages  social interaction  and a focus on  human relationships at work. That’s what new generations expect and respect.'

Laurent Choain, Chief People & Communication Officer, Mazars Group

'It’s not always easy for managers to recognise what real coaching is, let alone its value.  This book makes a compelling case for the Manager as Coach and contains real, usable examples of how to go about it.'

Ian Johnston, Chief Executive, Dubai Financial Services Authority

Timely combination of coaching and mentoring practices By Finn As a matter of fact, with more and more talented and ambitious members of the Generation X and Generation Y in the workplaces, mentoring and coaching becomes more and more important. These generations, more than the generations before them, expect more than just clear day-to-day work related guidance from line managers and leaders. This makes the “The Leader's Guide to Coaching & Mentoring” a valuable assets as it explains the commonalities and differences of the two approaches and provides practical guidance on how to implement these.I found the coaching scenario of “The line manager as a coach” extremely valuable as it provides a practical guide to combining coaching & mentoring with performance management which I previously regarded as being mutually exclusive. Examples on how to mentor in a line management position helped me to balance motivation of team members and driving a performance culture. The book is very well written starting with general explanations and background information followed by real world examples and practical guidance.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I loooooove shifter stories, and this one is GREAT! By Jolly Ereader In the previous story we were introduced to Theo and Myra. This is definitely an insta-love shifter story. But in this second installment, it was nice to see Theo and Myra fleshed out a bit. Their mating makes more sense and they become even more likeable as characters for me.Theo is trying to find a car since he wrecked his. He needs it in order to win the race against the villainous Max. Hopefully we see even more of Max and the Pride in the next installment because right now there's still some mystery regarding him.Myra is dealing with issues from her past and how they conflict with Theo and her new situation. She's struggling with feeling worthy, yet never comes off as whiny or "why me!?" It takes Theo's gentle but fierce love to help her see she's totally worth all of the trouble they're in.I also really enjoyed the introductions of Doran and Kim; obviously Ms. Lark is planning some story with them, too. I'll never say "no" to more hot bears!Super hope the third one comes out soon and we finally get to see the show-down between Theo and Max.

Vera Lark is doing an amazing job with this series. If you have not yet read book one, then you should read it before reading this book. If you love fast cars, hot steamy stories, and shifter books you will love this one.In this book it pickup right were book 1 had left off. Theo and Myra had already mated and Doran Theo’s roommate had walked in. Theo was shocked to find out that Doran would not loan him his race car. There is a reason you just have to read to find out. With out a fast car he would lose Myra. He just found her it would be like ripping his heart out to lose her.The question is where is he going to get a race car. Thankful his mate Myra had a friend who had a race car, 69 Barracuda if there could be a mate call with cars this would be the one.I love the feistiness that went on between Doran and Myra’s friend Kim. Kim was a beautiful feisty plus size woman who knew her way around cars. I can not wait to see how the race will go and if anything will blossom between Doran and Kim.

Theo needs a car to race Max for mating right to Myra and to get in undercover with the pride. Myra brings Theo and his roommate Doran (who had to drive) to her friend Kim. Sassy and hot with a perfect car but cost is a factor. And then we have Doran who can't stop thinking about Kim. Another great installment to the series.

"Fenimore Cooper's Literary Offenses" is an 1895 essay by Mark Twain, written as a satire and criticism of the writings of James Fenimore Cooper.[1] Drawing on examples from The Deerslayer and The Pathfinder from Cooper's Leatherstocking Tales, the essay claims Cooper is guilty of verbose writing, poor plotting, glaring inconsistencies, overused clichés, cardboard characterizations, and a host of similar "offenses." The essay is characteristic of Twain's biting, derisive and highly satirical style of literary criticism, a form he also used to deride such authors as Oliver Goldsmith, George Eliot, Jane Austen, and Robert Louis Stevenson.

About the Author Mark Twain, born Samuel Langhorne Clemens, was an American humorist and writer, who is best known for his enduring novels The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, which has been called the Great American Novel. Raised in Hannibal, Missouri, Twain held a variety of jobs including typesetter, riverboat pilot, and miner before achieving nationwide attention for his work as a journalist with The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County. He earned critical and popular praise for his wit and enjoyed a successful career as a public speaker in addition to his writing. Twain s works were remarkable for his ability to capture colloquial speech, although his adherence to the vernacular of the time has resulted in the suppression of his works by schools in modern times. Twain s birth in 1835 coincided with a visit by Halley s Comet, and Twain predicted, accurately, that he would go out with it as well, dying the day following the comet s return in 1910.

By DWD's Reviews Nearly 20 years ago I saw the movie The Last of the Mohicans (Director's Expanded Edition). I knew it was probably not too much like the books, but I was inspired to read James Fenimore Cooper: The Leatherstocking Tales I; The Pioneers, The Last of the Mohicans, The Prairie (Library of America), a collection of his work featuring Natty Bumpo (Hawkeye) and I found them to be horrible. Not just bad, but darn near unreadable. Now, note that I am a top reviewer here at Amazon. I love books, but I hate this author even though I love American history (I am a history teacher), I love frontier stories and I was certainly predisposed to like his works. But, I've always kept my opinions to myself, despite the fact that he had one sentence that lasted more than two pages describing a banquet table that featured a near endless string of semi-colons.Until now.If Mark Twain, the quintessential American writer finds Cooper wordy, clunky and darn near unreadable (to be specific, Twain calls his work "a crime against the English language"), than I can proudly say that I too find James Fenimore Cooper to be a hack.Of course, Twain says it much better. His sarcasm is laser sharp. He is merciless and I laughed out loud. Twain at his best, especially if you are familiar with Cooper.

More offensive to nature than the bad writer is the "important" writer who uses bloated language, stylistic conceits without reason and obscure, inexact and unnecessary words and constructions. Twain picked (or picked on) James Fenimore Cooper for this little essay -- Cooper was at the time a "major" American author -- and his writing is still taught in schools and universities. Many of Cooper's lesser 19th century contemporaries engaged in the same overblown writing excesses, but Cooper was and is the best known from that period. In picking Cooper, Twain was essentially shooting a tuna fish in a barrel. Their writing styles could not have been more different. Twain had one foot in the 20th century, while Cooper had both feet in the 18th century.Perhaps I am being too harsh. Read the Leatherstocking Tales, then Twain's essay and you decide.Let's just say that I garnered nary a chuckle from Cooper, but laughed until I choked at Twain's essay.

Seriously, he was laughing so hard he had to concentrate on driving! Mark Twain's description of Cooper's writing style is wonderfully funny. There is a part about Indians and a boat that is the best of all. If you read it, you'll understand what I'm talking about. Just download it and read it. After all, it's free. What do you have to lose?

Excellent Starting Point for People Heading Toward Retirement By Bill Cashell I have to admit that I have never been very good at understanding personal finances so the “Dummies” label really applies to me. I am in my 60s and ready to retire, with social security, an IRA and pension. I was looking for good advice on retirement spending and investing, so the “After 50” part of the title attracted me.Thankfully, the book is clearly written for people like me that do not have a working knowledge of many financial processes. This was a good starting point for me, with basic knowledge. At nearly 450 pages, it is not a small book. At times, there were places I felt it included excessive information that did not apply directly to finance, such as be healthy, eat more fiber, drink more water and manage your stress. All good info, but not what I was looking for.At the same time, it coved so many topics that could affect your finances that it really made me think past the basics. The more I read, the more I appreciated that. I also liked the fact that it showed both side of topics without trying to sell us on “the best way” to make financial decisions. The book covers key topic such as creating a retirement plan, Social Security, Medicare, long term health care and estate planning. These are topics that everyone over 50 should understand thoroughly (which I did not) to make good decisions. This book was more than I expected in some areas and less than I wanted in others. The key thing is that I know have a better understanding of finances, and a plan for moving forward. Even if it didn’t answer all of my questions, it got me motivated to learn more and make good decisions. Best of all, it was written in a way that was easy for me to grasp. I would recommend it as a starting point for everyone over 50.

It's a bit intimidating initially, because there is a LOT covered. That's a pro and a con; as a result, some of the topics are covered only briefly (e.g., caring for elderly parents), so depending on your specific needs, you will probably want to use this book as a starting point for (a) more books and (b) some professional advice. The book would actually benefit from a list of recommended reading or additional resources, because you're going to struggle to comprehend any subject in full based on this discussion alone. (Occasionally they will add a link, such as a referral to the aarp website, which is helpful.) Some subjects also seem to be missing; I have several friends who have decided on property investment as a potential way to supplement retirement income, and I did not see anything about that. There's a discussion about whether or not you should rent out your home while you're trying to sell it, but that isn't quite the same thing. My suggestion would be to go over the material in the appropriate sections of this book (and others, including online articles) before you meet with professionals (e.g., review investment sections before you speak with a financial adviser; review trusts before you speak with an estate lawyer). Then you will come to the table with some background information and you can work with the advisers in an educated way.Other reviewers (and the marketing copy) spell out the topics covered in this book. If you use it as suggested above, you'll have a good grounding for moving forward.

Good Resource Guide for those needing help....or a refresher for those needing a boost By Patti Fischer As someone with a degree in Business Finance, I consider myself fairly knowledgeable about personal finance. This book is laid out real well. You have sections for:1. Working toward Retirement2. Making Money Decisions in Retirement3. Dealing with Government Programs (Medicaid, Medicare and the new Healthcare Reform)4.Estate Planning5. The Part of Tens (Ten tips under various topics)Dummies books are a good reference guide, whether you no nothing about a subject or know some and want to learn more. They are laid out clear and concise. Most anyone should be able to follow and understand.By the time you reach age 50, you should be thinking about retirement. Whether you're using this to get started, or need something to make sure you're doing well, I highly recommend Personal Finance for Dummies.
