A very good twist By elaineb A different readThe stories are all different some ghost some romantic some sad and two Roy grace stories.The ghost stories are very frightening and are based on true eventsThe story of the dead simple was the basis of the first in the Roy grace series and had a different ending that didn't impress me.The majority of the stories were good but the story about the sailor and the story about the online dating were to be honest well below parr and intensely disliked them.A good change

It turns out the sample was really the best part of the book. I didn't need to read parts of stories I had read before. I stopped reading about 3/4 way through the book and have just recently finished it but it didn't get any better. Sorry I wasted my money on this book. I have just bought the latest Roy Grace book and just hope it will be better. Love Peter James but this book was disappointing.

Entertaining collection By Kay Smillie Got to be honest and admit that I was expecting all the stories to be crime tales but loved the ghost stories that are part of this collection. First got into Peter James after my older brother gave me a loan of Dead Simple and the original short story that was expanded into the novel is here. If you love the Roy Grace novels then give this collection a go. You will be (un)pleasantly surprised.Ray Smillie

It will take you away from your own life's stresses to experience peace and happy joy through the trials and triumphs of this pioneer heroine and her new found family as you travel with her on the journey to freedom and release in the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ. Well worth the time spent reading it and something you will no doubt want to return to again and again. Five stars.

She's an awesome, wonderful, loving sister. She is also my spiritual mother who led me to the Lord when I was ten years old.My beautiful niece is the model on the cover and one of my other incredibly talented nieces was the photographer. And finally, a dear friend of mine was the editor.If you love Christian romance, you will love this story of heartache turned into redemptive love!

It details how many people made a thousand dollars in the 1920s and 30's (about 40-50ks in today's purchasing power). Back then, you could do things like buy a potato chip making machine, bag them in your basement, and sell them to restaurants.Today, of course, you are expected to file for an LLC (perhaps with a DBA), apply for food handling permits, get WC insurance, get tax ID numbers for federal and state taxes, get a liability bond, withold taxes for any employees, etcetera, all before you can sell your first potato chip. Madness! This is why we were a powerhouse then, and why we are doomed now.

I figure inflation calculated from the time this book was written until now would equal out to 10k.

Three Cheers for Nina McConigley By Bonnie Darling I dont always gravitate towards short stories, but after reading this book, I have changed my mind. The writing of each and every story is incredible. We chose this for our book club selection and every single member raved about it. That never happens! We each had a different favorite story, favorite character,favorite theme. Each story could be a novel of its own. We hope to read a lot more from this talented author, who explores what it means to belong or not to belong. The quest to find the place where you feel you belong and then finding it isnt where you thought!

By Lindsay O'Donovan I really loved reading this book- and to be very honest short stories I often find difficult to get into- however Nina has a way of pulling you into her characters immediately. I also particularly loved the way ( as a lifelong East Coast resident) she captures the feeling of Wyoming, and makes me feel like it is very present. A wonderful book!!!!!

Like several of the other commenters By Wyoming Buffalo Gal Like several of the other commenters, I am not one who gravitates to short stories, but this collection read almost like a memoir of place. I particularly connected with the stories set in Wyoming, since it is my home and I appreciated the obvious attachment to our landscape and wildlife, but the stories set elsewhere were so full of description, it was like reading a travel blog. In addition, Nina's characters add another perspective and layer of diversity to both the Equality State and broader human experience. This award winning book is well worth reading, regardless of genre preference or personal perspective. The writing will lead you into a place that is at once familiar and new.

A well-written analysis By Gallart Say Goodbye to Survival Mode by Crystal Paine: Key Takeaways & Analysis is a summary of Crystal Paine’s book Say Goodbye to Survival Mode. It’s so great to be able to learn from a book without having to read the whole thing. Sometimes I get frustrated with the back stories and the fluff involved with reading books. In about 20 minutes, I learned why I shouldn’t stretch myself too thin, how to set realistic goals, and practice self-discipline. At the end of the book, I was left inspired to implement all the life lessons into my own life. I think these types of book reviews are extremely valuable, especially for those with busy schedules. Additionally, this summary is very well-written – clear and to the point. I would recommend anyone to read this.

Gray When I read the book covered here, I was quite familiar with most self-help and up to this point, wasn’t very impressed. Yet, after giving it a try, I was wholly intrigued with the actionable, no-nonsense material. I couldn’t help but wish more books like this could be so filled with succinct clarity instead of vague flag waving sessions and esoteric nonsense. Due to my appreciation for Say Goodbye to Survival Mode, I purchased this summary in order to distill as much of the information I could into a consumable form. If it weren’t for the material contained herein, I would have probably missed some valuable key points that would have otherwise gone unnoticed. The Key Takeaways were so valuable in structuring the book properly and providing a defined understanding of what each main point meant. I especially enjoyed the number 5 analysis: Practicing self-discipline. It further illuminated me on a practice often overlooked due to the lack of real understanding regarding it.I’m glad I purchased this companion because now I possess an even greater understanding of this wonderful book. There were lots of surprises, and the plot was well planned, full of mystery, and suspenseful; the characters were beloved and three-dimensional. It's a story that will stay with me. I'm also a sucker for a good ending, and I don't often feel like I get one, but this book definitely had it. A page turner, and one that will have me awaiting Ms. O'Brien's next novel.

It was once again a book that I couldn't put down once I started reading it. Her descriptive prose had me feeling like I was actually there with her characters. I kept waiting for her to bring in some character or characters from the first two books and when she did it made so much sense. Not what I expected which made it a great read. I like being surprised.

There is much love and tragedy, drama, and suspense with twists and turns you never see coming . I loved this book and with all great books , you never want them to end . I can hardly believe " Jane O;Brian" came up with so many new ideas. Her historical accuracy on past happenings brought this story to life. I can't wait to start her new book . She is a great writer.

I cannot say enough good things about his newest book The Ten Commandments: Still the Best Moral Code. This book is simple, but not "simplistic" like Dennis says! He has taught the Old Testament in LA for over 25 years or so. I really trust him and his words, and if you have not read Happiness is a Serious Problem, order it today! A must read. The Ten Commandments Book shares a funny story. I was in the dental chair getting my second root canal, and had this book on my lap as I was reading it at the time and brought it from home to my appointment to distract me. Well, the Endodontist came in to the room and said "hey, did you get that in the front of my office? I just bought 9 of those on Amazon." LOL! It was indeed my book. He went on and on to say how valuable the book is and so did I. He got it for his children and wife, and I passed it on to my 23 year old daughter, and will then make sure my 2 other kids read it (oh, and my mom wants to)! He is such a wise man. I would not want to publicly get in an argument with him. His ideas just make sense and they are backed with facts and in this case, Old Testament knowledge and wisdom. It shows us how we come up with some of our policies in this country. Who knew that Thou Shall Not Kill really means Thou Shall Not MURDER? I did not know and I am a lifelong Catholic. This book opened my eyes on so many levels, yet stayed with me because it was concise, at less than 100 pages. I did not get boggled down in facts but retained what I learned. I am sure this was part of his idea in writing the book, because this could have been a 400 page book with a lot of details and history. But, in a day and age of information overload, I appreciated its brevity and depth. Well done Mr. Prager. I work while your radio show is on in Orange County, CA, but my faithful listener mom still uses cassette tapes to listen to your show. She used to drive my dad bonkers when she stepped out, because he had to remember to flip the cassette tapes over! Hilarious. We love Dennis. If you ever desire to write another book, I would love a 400 page book this time! :) Thank you Dennis for all you do. Get all his books. You will not regret it. Shalom! Can I say that? :) I just did, so it is ok I suppose.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. too short By L. Stone I was expecting a "real" book; this is more like a little hard-cover version of a pamphlet or something. Much too brief. It's also written at a very basic level, like 5th or 6th grade or something. Having enjoyed the author's radio show for several years, I was looking forward to a deep and insightful read. What I got instead was a collection of SHORT essays, one on each commandment, with a lot of empty pages in between for "notes." Phooey.If you listen to his radio show, that's enough. You don't need the book, too.

Prager, as always, excels at presenting seemingly confusing issues in a straightforward and easily understood format. Praqer gives you the tools to understand and to explain the fundamentals of Judeo-Christian morality and the foundations of Western Civilization. Highly recommended for anyone needing a refresher. And if you are looking for a quick presentation of the basics for someone who had never been exposed to the hard questions, this will do the trick. This lays out the reality of who we are and what we can do and why it matters better than anything else I know of. Thank you Mr. Prager! And God bless you!

For me, the brevity refreshing after reading some real door stoppers like Seveneves (loved it) or longer anthologies where it can be harder to stay focused due to variations in the quality of the work. A few of Decopunk's stories are on the dark side and others silly. Most are optimistic and represent a love affair with science and progress. All were written by capable writers. There was only 1 where I got the end and thought "meh"."The Wollart Nymphs" reminded me of a pleasant stay on the RMS Queen Mary. The story includes characters that are interesting and a clever solution to a crisis involving a ghost ship."Judy Garland Saves the World (And I Don't Mean Oz)" features a waitress / tour guide. Like several other stories in the collection, the main character is an ordinary American with a story both innocent and charming."Corn Fed Blues" is a story featuring a young woman who has a chance encounter that is both touching and one that sets her sights on learning quantum mechanics."Airboy and Vooda Visit the Jungles of the Moon" is a silly, over the top ode to pulp fiction. I had the sense the writer had great fun writing this story."Symmetry" is set in Weimar Germany and has Emmy Noether as its protagonist. It is the most serious story in the collection and the atmosphere is haunting. It was my personal favorite and I recommended it for the Hugo short list."And Every Pebble a Soldier" is another serious story. Short on pages but not on impact. I wish more writers understood that brevity adds more than it takes away.These are just the highlights of a very nice collection of short stories. I would love to see more Decopunk

Williams III I was given a pre-release copy of DecoPunk, The Spirit of the Age, in return for an honest review.With the ironic exception of the subtitle story, The Spirit of the Age, I found this to be an engaging set of short stories either set in the early decades of the twentieth century, or written in homage to the stories of the era. Unlike many Steam Punk stories, this volume did not pretend that people of color didn't exist, nor does it shy away from exploring characters whose sexuality is not straight. While some of the stories are no more than wide eye'd homages to real life people elevated by the stories into over the top heroism (Mr. Tesla's Radio Rainmaker, Losing Amelia), others explore social issues of gender (Bernice Bobs your hair) and race (Quick Silver). The Spirit of the Age is a lovely read, but you're left with no idea what happened as the author of that particular short doesn't make explicit what is in the box which is the focus of the stories' events. The best thing about the collection is that the stories as a whole are ones that, while a joy to read, also cause the reader to pause and reflect. I know of no better praise.

By LTKepner "Decopunk" is an anthology, with all the ups and downs one expects in any work trying to be all things to all people. My story, "Quicksilver," was a great challenge to write. It's not my favorite era (or my favorite setting) because it was a horrendous time and place to live, the Adirondacks during the Depression. There are family legends which I incorporated into my story. And though one reviewer has called it "jumping the shark," i.e., more than a tad contrived, I purged a lot of old ghosts with this book. And I like the way it turned out.
