1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. great read By Patricia statham This was such a fun book for me to read . I love horror books but this book had horror and comedy. The first story had me laughing out loud because I had a bug problem at on time. It made me think back and laugh. The first story THE INFESTATION , you all know you hate them the stink bugs that invade areas every year. The characters in this story are just ordinary everyday citizens . It shows how one man's hysteria can take on a life of its own . Just get a few people to follow and you can get Armageddon . It is a very well written story that will make you giggle in some parts cause we have all been there with bugs . The second story KAIJU GAS, Has a giant monster roaming in Vermont. A couple arguing in their car as they are driving home . Arguing about farting I presume , it had me giggling cause all couple argue about stupid thing. They aren't paying attention either . Come on you all have been thereThe third story GARY'S DAY OFF . Is about a guy that doesn't like his job but is working long hours cause he likes the people . On his day off he has the worst day of his life. He ends up demon hunting at the old folks home . Gary is one pissed off LPN . The third story SPECIAL AGENT RICHARD PETERS in the Case of the FRUGAL KILLER. Is the story of a serial killer and the FBI agent that is chasing him. But it has a twist . Richard Peters is an agent that is constantly being harassed by his partners , he is sent out to catch the frugal killer This one takes you on a run around and in the arms of serial killers. Its a take off on Hansel and Gretal as he ends up on a butcher block . Won't tell you anymore but just imagine what is going on. The fourth story THE FAN . Is about a young man kidnapped and is going to die . But all he can talk about is paying his cell bill. He just doesn't get the fact that he is about to die. He becomes a fan and drives the killer crazy by asking tons of questions. I laughed so hard reading this one story , cause you can just picture the killer shaking his head while his prey drove him crazy. The fifth book THE BROTHERS BEEF , This short is about three guys that go ghost hunting . The way they go about it is pretty funny . Donnie doesn't know what he is getting into . He thinks he going to clean pools. Reading this story reminds of GHOSTBUSTERS and how they go about it . It was a great story to read and I loved it . The sixth story in the book is THE TIME DUSTIN WENT BACK IN TIME . It is about 2 best friends who are there for each other . Goblin is a geek and Dustin is grieving for his murdered girl friend. Goblin is trying to pull Dustin out of his grief but not doing a good job. One day Dustin gets a time traveling truckers hat . Where he travels back to help his girlfriend and that is where chaos ensues. I feel sorry for what poor Dustin has to go through while he is trying to get back home .I giggled at some scenes The last story is ALEKZANDER VON THIRTENBURG. Let me introduce you to Alekzander the best vampire that ever lived . In his opinion that is. He has survived the stake and the holy water . He decides to take a trip to America. Where he can't believe the fashion and getting assaulted And the poor vampire's day get even worse. I felt so sorry for poor Alekzander . I laughed and laughed . Over all I really liked these stories . They are well written and flow very easily . The characters remind me of people that I know . Especially in the infestation . I had a blast reading this book . I was finished it in an evening . I laughed and had a great time reading . So if you want a great horror book with an element of comedy mixed in. This is a great book if you love to laugh with your horror.

It almost sounded like a joke. A Clone walks into a church and... But for Rev. Chris Parmenter, Pastor of All Souls Church, it was anything but a joke. Parmenter had settled into a comfortable life pastoring a growing suburban congregation. The church was the place where he found peace, comfort and certainty, All that would change with a simple question from a young woman with a barcode on her hand: "Do I have a soul?" She is a clone in a society where clones have few civil or legal rights. Clones are viewed with suspicion. The consequences for a church having a clone as a member could mean loss of membership and standing in the denomination. Parmenter, in answering this young woman's question, must tread a path between compassion and theology, between the needs of an individual against the sensibilities of an entire congregation, between his own pride and the pain of another.

Parmenter's Wager: A Short Story, by Terri Main

From the Author I know the premise of this story almost sounds like a joke. "A clone walks into church and..." However, I hope it causes some serious reflection not only about what it means to be human, but also about our own fears and prejudices. One of the powerful aspects of science fiction is that it can start the conversation about social issues in a relatively safe way. No, I'm not preaching to anyone here. I'm not even advocating for or against cloning. I'm simply raising some questions we may have to deal with in a few years. The question is not so much how do you or I feel about the issue philosophically, but how do we deal with it on a human basis in day-to-day life.

About the Author Terri Main lives with her five cats in Central California. She is a retired college professor who jokes that she is a fast-fading cultural stereotype: "Old Maid School Teacher with Cats." However, she has had an eventful life. In the 1970s she helped produce Christian rock concerts in a day and age when "sometimes we had to fill the drums with blankets to appease the older church goers." She worked in radio, produced video documentaries and taught communication for nearly 30 years before retiring in 2012 to pursue writing full time. She recently completed her seventh National Novel Writing Month event writing a 50,000 word novel in a month. "Now comes the hard part - editing." She has a varied background in writing. She has written for newspapers, magazines, radio and TV as well as the internet. Currently she has eight books available in print or on Kindle with more appearing weekly.

By Peter Younghusband I deliberately bought this short (31 pages) solely for the subject matter: Does a clone have a soul? Definitely fits well in the edgy, Christian, speculative genre. in this short, Terri Main asks and answers this question very succinctly and concisely, almost like some special ops missions, get in quickly and get out.At this point in history, humans have not been cloned but in this plot, set in a few decades in the future, they have and don't seem to be very well accepted by society. It seems they have few civil or legal rights and seem to be treated as sub human and discriminated against by society, and even Christians which is depicted well through the attitude of Roger Gordon, president of the church board of directors and the initial reaction by Pastor Chris Parmenter to Erica confiding in him with this knowledge.Main seems to also have used this subject to align itself with those Christians who also feel out of place, rejected or unwelcome in the House of God as she has dedicated this short to these members. After reading this short, I can see the similarity. Main confronts us with how should Christians treat clones who have accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour? She portrays some Christians with the attitude that they clones are inhuman, soulless and have no place in the Church and Christians should not accept them. Then Main adds the counter attitude through Parmenter that they should be treated with dignity and respect. It is from this and in trying to answer Erica's question as to whether she has a soul that Main provides a suitable answer to this dilemma, seeing that the Bible is silent and not specific on this topic. She does this using Pascal's Wager. I had not known of this and was very intrigued with the reasoning involved in his premise. Applying this to the subject of this dilemma, is very effective and it resonates well with me. I loved the way Main uses this at the end of the short in addressing this question and securing Erica's place in the Body of Christ. I was very happy with how Main has treated this "hot potato" of a topic that as I have mentioned before, is going to be an issue when/if this becomes a reality. I can see that the two opposing attitudes of Christians are going to be evident in this reality and I would hope that the outcome is something along the lines of Pascal's Wager in addressing the issues involved with human clones. This issue does provoke the reader to consider their attitude towards fellow members of the Church being of this creation in the future and how much this attitude will be from their subjectivity and how much will be from the leading of the Holy Spirit and what the Word says about how to love people regardless of their background.Main's treatment of this topic shows her love of the Word, of her Lord and her desire to exhort, educate and entertain the reader. This is what I love about Christian fiction. I look forward to more of what Main has to offer. One a side note to the main plot, I loved the technology described by Main. Talking electronics, computers, electronic personal assistants, cars that talk to you about being low on fuel. Great stuff! I wish we had that now, but can see that all this is just around the corner.Strongly Recommended.

Like any good story...it left me thinking By clady - Hattie/MsHattie Read this due to the recommendation of a family member who thoroughly enjoyed the story. As I started the story, I was curious about how the topic would be handled. The author grabbed my attention quickly and kept it. There were several sentences that I highlighted so I would be sure and remember them later. As a reader who enjoys science fiction and who is also a Christian, I found myself still thinking about it today. The only disappointment in the story was that I wanted to know more but that is just me. The author completed the story very well. Congrats to the author on a very well written story that leaves the reader thinking and contemplating how this relates to others in the church who feel isolated and misunderstood.

We get to see him grow and change, as well as have an intelligent and logical discussion on the subject matter. A fun read, that echoes stories of racism from our past. It's hard to think of people ever treating human beings in such a manner, but we've done it in the past, we're still doing it now, and we'll continue to do it. This story is poignant for that reason.I would only add that I'd like to have seen the clone's faith and relationship with the Lord Jesus to have come into play. That she was accepted into membership because of her relationship with the Lord. We don't hear anything about that.

Miranda, Lady Leighton, is a young widow whose husband was lost at the battle of Waterloo. She has tolerated the well-meaning sympathies of her family for over a year, but finds herself longing to get away from them and from England, and shake off the pervasive sorrow she has felt since the death of her beloved Fitz. She travels alone to Geneva in the summer of 1816, an unseasonably cold summer, and one filled with violent and terrifying storms, a fitting setting for her meeting with Dr. John Polidori, and his employer, Lord Byron. An invitation to Byron’s villa on the lake, also brings her into contact with Percy Shelley and Shelly’s wife, Mary at the very moment when Byron proposes the challenge that provoked the writing of Mary’s novel, Frankenstein. But Miranda is unimpressed by the gathering, and flees the villa for the security and obscurity of her room at a local hotel. Fate, though, has more tricks in store for Miranda, as she becomes acquainted with a former soldier, Hew MacHeath, Viscount Keirenn, who was also at Waterloo and who proves to be an excellent confidant. In spite of herself, Miranda is attracted to this handsome, reticent war hero, and makes her interest clear to him. Will a terrible misunderstanding doom their love before it can begin? Will meddling poets and the tempests of passion create mountains of obstacles that stand in the way of their hopes for happiness? Warning! This ebook contains explicit scenes of passion and desire. For adult eyes only!!!

The characters are fairly well developed considering the brevity of the story. Lady Miranda Leighton ventures from England to Switzerland trying to organize her life after the death of her husband. There is a little sex involved in the story.

How can it not be, when the book it self is so short, I read it in less than two hours? Anyway, this book was alright. Not great, but not bad either. I was a little confused as to why it was written in the first place, since it was so short, however, after going back and reading more about why Mr. LePore wrote this book of short stories, it is clear he did to let his readers get to know more about his characters without taking away from the original stories. I think that he did a good job in that aspect, as this book is about his 3 main characters in his book. So, if you are looking to know more about characters without it taking away from the purpose and message of the stories you read, then books like this would be great to have before you read a novel. Mr. LePore did a good job at creating this collection for his readers to understand the characters and their personalities better, without making the novels themselves so long and drawn out with the tedious descriptions that some novels have of the characters withing. Three stars to Mr. LePore!*This review is based on a complimentary copy which was provided for an honest review*

He can actually have you seeing the story as it progresses with the feeling that you are there. What a talent! His other books are exceptional in there own right, and I usually never read fiction. Great stories. Anyone Can Die is a quick snapshot into James ability to get you reading and not put down the book until the book is finished.

Warfield The three short stories in "Anyone Can Die" represent some of the characters who are in the author's novel, A World I Never Made. The first story, "Till Death Do Us Part" finds newlyweds Pat and Lorrie Nolan on their honeymoon in the southwestern U.S. Pat is still insecure about what kind of husband he'll be and worried that Lorrie will be disappointed with him and the marriage will end. As they travel through a large Indian reservation, they see a hot springs and make their way there. On their way back to their car from the springs, a confrontation occurs that changes Pat's way of thinking."God's Warriors" is the second story and it is my favorite. Meg Nolan is an American living in Paris, and Meg has a very wealthy boyfriend whose father owns a chain of jewelry stores.Megan is a bit of an opportunist when it comes to men, but she has done a very good thing for a young girl in dire need of help. What she does for a friend is the part that becomes questionable. Although this was the story I liked the best, it was the most confusing as far as keeping events in order. The last story is "Max" and this one finds Max traveling a long time and a long ways to a funeral. When he was a young boy he thought he saw his stepfather kill his mother, but he was never absolutely sure. His stepfather went to prison for six years, but Max's confusion counted him out as a witness or he might have had a heavier sentence. Now the stepfather is out of prison, and Max is back in his old territory for a few days. What he does with his time remains to be seen. These three stories are well written, but I'm not particularly inspired to read the novel. The characters are interesting, but not interesting enough for me to buy the book. The introduction to the stories says that the novel is suspenseful and it may be, but I don't see that much suspense carried over into these three stories, so I gave them 3 stars for being okay.

Gone without a trace ... Lexi Yates knows she hasn’t harmed her three-year old daughter, yet the Louisiana town of Gator Bayou seems to think she’s guilty. With her daughter missing, the evidence stacking up against her and her faith in God tested to the limit, Lexi must find a way to convince FBI agent Ace Valdez she’s innocent before she becomes the next target. Ace Valdez doesn’t trust easily, and he certainly knows better than to fall for a case, yet there’s something about the widowed mother that makes him want to believe she’s innocent, but evidence doesn’t lie. Or does it? Long Novella - about 36,000 words

At one point I had to suspend my disbelief, but quickly got over it in this well written story. My only regret is that it wasn't longer, as I would have liked to keep reading. The christian theme was well incorporated, and added to the story nicely.Well done Tamelia Tumlin!

Wonderful Book By Jettie Lexi has moved away from her family, with her 3 year old daughter, to try and relieve the stress of her husbands death in an auto accident. Only 23, and a widow adds stress to her already stressful life. Taking a day off work to redecorate her daughter's room, when she goes to pick up her daughter, they tell her she picked her up 2 1/2 hrs earlier, and had told them she wouldn't be there the rest of the week. This is the beginning of a drama that keeps unfolding into a deeper mystery. The police and FBI agent, Ace, believe she's done something with her daughter, only her parents seem to believe her. Was the stress of the past year getting to her? Had she really picked up her daughter, and then had no memory of it?Some say the Christian aspect of this book was unnecessary, to me it was very necessary, it brought a lot to the story. The local church pulling together with Lexi to have a candlelight prayer vigil, and what it brought forth was a wonderful addition.I was given a digital copy of this book by the author, to read and review. No other compensation was given. All my reviews are my own opinion, I'm not required to give favorable reviews.

10 of 11 people found the following review helpful. First time Tamelia Tumlin reader By deb B I was given this book to review by Tamelia Tumlin on library thing. My review is my honest opinion. It was a quick read. I loved the characters Ace and Lexi. The characters were well-developed and I felt like I knew them. The crime/mystery theme of this book is definitely my favorite genre to read. I like how the romance was incorporated slowly into the story. While I felt the Christian theme was unnecessary, it was incorporated into the storyline well. I would definitely recommend this book to readers who like a little suspense and romance. It was definitely a good book. I will definitely be looking to read more by this author. If you want a quick but great read this book is for you.
