Some are short enough to read while waiting in line at the store (it's that time of year!) and others I wanted to curl up with a cup of hot chocolate to read, but all of them put me in the holiday spirit. The recipes are a great touch and tie in with the stories. I think all ages, both men and women will enjoy this book, just the right length for holiday reading.

Estok The weather outside may be frightful, but the stories, poems, and recipes you'll find in ANGEL SONGS are heartwarming and delightful. The stories vary in length from vignette to flash with a couple full-sized tales to boot -- my favorite being "Christmas Treasures". And the recipes... Can't wait to show them to the Mrs.! A perfect read for this time of year.

By Kerry Nietz To start with, I have to give kudos to the concept of “Angel Wings.” A book filled with Christmas-themed short stories, poems, and recipes is a really neat idea. The stories read fast and are a mixture of Christmas fragrances— melancholy remembrances, gospel and family anecdotes, and a smattering of whimsical fantasy. For me, the strongest stories were those that had a fantastical twist. A few of them might be worthy of expansion into a longer tale. (“A Grand Affair” is at the top of my list.)The editing felt a little uneven to me. Some of the earlier stories (“the Errant Elf,” for instance) were a bit verbose for my taste, while many of the later ones (“Teacups and Traditions”) seemed quite polished. The description and characterization is strong in every tale—a real plus for a book that is attempting to bring you into the Christmas mood. Given the short story format, I would’ve liked to see stronger endings to some of the tales. They seemed to drift away instead of snapping to a close. But since this is winter spice, maybe a little drifting is okay.Overall, a neat concept, some fun stories, and three recipes that look really, really good. If you need a shot of Christmas spirit, this isn’t a bad place to start.

Accessible, informative and well written guide to growing a GREAT community By Sean Ottey Alex Kehr has written a book about community building that is neither Marketing top-heavy nor Business top-heavy. A great balance of common sense and unexpected instructions on how to grow not just a community, but an engaged and loyal community.The narrative portions of the book are entertaining and, somehow, are also informative about the mindset and attitude needed to truly grow a committed community. The instructional portions of the book are clear, concise and, most importantly, actionable.I read the whole book the day I got it. I am sure it will be something I will return to over and over as I grow my developer community.

This is the first time someone actually captures them while they're playing...Seriously, if you want to understand the foundations of gamification, and its relation to game thinking, this is a great way to start. The book not only clears the myth/confusion that often times surrounds the topic, it also takes a deeper, more pragmatic dive into user types and their motivation, which is key in building gamified solutions. Especially appreciated the examples that clarifies the theory behind some of the design implications. I highly recommend you keep this book on your bookshelf, and use it often as you're planning your next gamification project.The only thing I missed was the colors. Overall, it's a great resource!

About the Author St. Bridget of Sweden was a mystic and author born in 1303 at Uppland. One of the six patron saints of Europe, she married at the early age of thirteen and bore eight children, one of whom was later canonized as St. Catherine of Sweden. She was a distinctly noble and charitable woman, earning her a wide level of popularity, and also maintained good religious influence over her husband, Ulf Gudmarsson. Bridget later founded the Order of the Holy Savior, and also experienced visions of Mary and the Christ Child. She died on the twenty-third of July, 1373, after having written various prayers and popularizing the well-known Fifteen Prayers of the Lord's wounds. St. Bridget was canonized by Pope Boniface IX in 1391.

If anyone is trying to increase their knowledge on this subject, this book is a must. As a novice to this subject, (and without trying to give the enjoyment of reading the book away)I did not know that St. Bridgets writings were actually in three persons (that of Jesus, the Blessed Virgin Mary and herself). The writings are spiritually uplifting and I highly recommend you reading this.Amen.

It provides important insights into the Passion of Our Lord and the life of Mary, which insights give excellent material for meditation, and, therefore, are a help to one's spiritual development. Our Lord has told many saints that meditation on His Passion is the best way to improve one's spiritual life. The Revelations is a wonderful guide on the road to spiritual improvement.

Bridget" By William Rogers This could be a most interesting book, except that is ,merely a short, devotional book of EXCERPTS from the original, NOT the entire "Revelations of ST. Bridget". SO if you're looking for a complete book lookk elsewhere than TAN Publications, at least, at LEAST until they start mentioning books are really excerpts from books, books are abridged etc. As it is, I now have to search for an entire copy again.

Stoughton Golden NuggetsDenny Golden and I met in the 1960s during "boot camp" for Marine Corps officer candidates at the U.S. Marine Corps base in Quantico, Virginia, where the Drill Instructor named Denny the "Ox" in recognition of his pro football size. After a more than 50 year hiatus, our paths have crossed again as parishioners in the same Catholic church.Denny's book is an instructive and inspirational memoir of a Roman Catholic Christian life well lived by a second generation American raised in Bayside, Queens who gave up a pro football career to pursue a career in higher education that culminated in his 20 year Presidency of Fontbonne University. Denny tells his life story in a series of lively and entertaining vignettes that impart important life lessons for all of us.Each poignant vignette provide us his "golden nuggets", each supported by applicable verses from the Bible. For our youth, the vignettes illustrate the pitfalls of youthful follies, such as playing with the electrified "third rail" of the Long Island Railroad and hanging out with the wrong crowd as a teenager that nearly caused Denny to become involved with the murder of police officer.Many vignettes tell of life decisions guided by a guardian angel and an openness to God's calling, which for Christians is heard through the Holy Spirit. For example, Denny heeded God’s call and passed up a contract from the New York Giants organization to pursue a career in higher education. Denny's "golden nugget": Do not harden your heart against God's call.Denny emphasizes the importance of mentors, special people that God sends across your path, often at crucial stages of your life. Denny's golden nugget: We are all God's children.As a Marine Corp Vietnam veteran, I read with great interest his account of his US Marine Corps service. While stationed at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California, Denny was assigned to develop and present to 1st Marine Division troops a tactical lesson plan that was designed to prepare them to fight and win the war in Vietnam. ( I was at that time a Marine officer in that 1st Division preparing our Marines to fight the Vietnam war). As a result of researching the history of foreign interventions in Vietnam by the Chinese, Japanese and French, Denny concluded that he could not support the U.S. strategy in Vietnam as he saw it as a war of attrition that could not be won. Faced with a moral dilemma, Denny had the courage to voice his concerns with his commanding officer. Denny’ “golden nugget”: It is our responsibility to seek, ask, clarify, define, understand and collaborate the decisions made by our leaders on the basis of God’s truth.

The examples that Dr. Golden gave and the lessons learned from each, in my opinion, should be required reading in every high school in America.. I honestly do believe reading Golden Nuggets would have helped many students now, who are going the wrong way up a one way street and would be a super influence on students of all ages--..I could go on and on but my advice to anyone would be the buy the book and read each chapter and absorb the incidents and lessons learned by Dr. Golden--It reminds me of many other motivational books that I have read, in the past but actually his bad experiences and then his successes, as a result of lessons learned puts Golden Nuggets, in a class of its own... THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY; he covered all of it! !!

About the Author

Dr. James T. Bradford is author of Preaching and Second Chronicles Seven:Fourteen. He holds a PhD in aerospace engineering from the University of Minnesota. While in college, he led a Bible study that eventually grew into a university church. Upon graduation in 1979, Jim entered full-time ministry with that campus outreach. Since then, he has served growing faith-based communities in British Columbia, California, and Missouri. Currently he travels the world speaking on leadership and church growth in his role as general secretary of the Assemblies of God, which was recently recognized as the fourth-largest Christian movement in the world. He and his wife, Sandi, have two daughters and reside in Springfield, Missouri.About the Foreword Author Byron Klaus has served as president of the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary since 1999. Prior to his appointment as AGTS president, he served at Vanguard University, and at local churches in California, Texas, and Illinois. His commitment to leadership development in growing churches around the world has taken him to preach and to develop leaders in over 50 nations. Wood In the course of my ministry, Jim Bradford has been my boss, mentor, colleague, and friend. So, you will understand what I mean when I say I cannot be “objective” about his most recent book. I am not objective about him. He’s the real deal—a God-centered, Jesus-focused, Spirit-filled leader.Unsurprisingly, then, I think Lead So Others Can Follow is a great primer on Christian leadership. While my endorsement of the book is colored by my respect for the author, that respect itself grows out of 25 years of observing Bradford’s leadership personally. Montaigne said, “No man is a hero to his own valet,” indicating that some leaders are impressive at a distance but not up close. Bradford is one of a handful of people I know who is impressive at both.Bradford is an aerospace engineer by training. (One of his congregations printed a T-shirt with the motto, “My pastor is a rocket scientist.”) His analytical skills are evident through the book. He divides the books twelve chapters into four sections titled, respectively, “Spirituality and Servanthood,” “Systems and Strategies,” “Skills and Strengths,” and “Stamina and Stability.” (As the alliteration shows, Bradford is also a memorable preacher.)There are hosts of books about what might be called the “externals” of leadership, what leaders do. Bradford examines these in the second and third sections of the book. Too little attention is paid to the “internals” of leadership, however—who leaders are. The internals are the focus of the first and final sections. As I look at these sections, I see an emphasis on the health of the leader, his (or her) spiritual, relational, physical, and emotional wellbeing.Christian leaders—like all leaders—have power, which Bradford defines as “the influence we have and how we use it.” He distinguishes three kinds of power:• Positional Power—We have this power by virtue of the title on our office doors and the authority that our roles or positions give us.• Possessional Power—We have this power because of something we have that others do not.• Personal Power—This power flows out of the trust and respect others have for us. It is influence that is rooted in who we are, based on inner character and proven integrity rather than external position or personal possessions.Christian leaders might influence their congregations in the short term through the exercise of positional or possessional power. Over time, however, appeals to these kinds of authority fall increasingly on deaf ears. They “push” people into following the leader. Only personal power—a leader’s spiritual authenticity, integrity, and strength of character—“pull” people into a leader’s sphere of influence. The battle for healthy leadership and healthy churches is won or lost by the leader’s cultivation of spiritual, relational, physical, and emotional health.Bradford has great advice for the “externals” of leadership—oversight roles, strategic processes, staffing criteria, team building, public speaking, change management, etc. In my opinion, though, Bradford’s greatest contribution to the topic of Christian leadership lies in his opening and closing sections on leadership’s “internals.”I close this review with the closing anecdote of Bradford’s book:"At the 2010 Lausanne III conference in South Africa, a Pentecostal pastor from Kenya told the story of the East African revival of over fifty years ago. During that time, people would walk well-worn pathways to prayer huts and places of intercession in the forest. When Christians slipped away from prayer, their friends would notice by the condition of their paths, and gently encourage each other: 'Brother, the grass grows on your path.'"As leaders of God’s people, engaged in spiritual battle and committed to prevailing, our challenge is to never let the grass grow on our pathway to prayer."Amen to that!
