I got sucked in almost immediately and the storyline was amazing By Caden Gills Talk about a steamy book.When i was done with the first few pages i had to put it down cause my hand started to burn.I got sucked in almost immediately and the storyline was amazing.Half way through the book i called my friends and ordered them to grab this book.when everyone was finished we all gathered at my house and had drinks and talked for hours about this book...BRAVO!!

For Oscar Wilde, Tite Street was full of 'wonderful possibilities', while for Whistler it was 'the birthplace of art' where the nascent Aesthetic Movement was nurtured in his highly controversial White House. From the studios and houses of Tite Street issued modern masterpieces in art such as Whistler's Harmony in Pink and Grey and Sargent's Lady Agnew, and in literature with Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray. But Tite Street had a dark side as well. Here Whistler was bankrupted, Frank Miles was sent to an asylum, Wilde was imprisoned, and Peter Warlock was gassed to death.

Throughout its turbulent existence, Tite Street mirrored the world around it. From the Aesthetic Movement to the Edwardian suffragettes, through the bombs of the Blitz in the 1940s to the bombs of the IRA in the 1970s, Tite Street remained a home to innumerable artists and writers, socialites and suffragettes, musicians and madmen. Countless biographies have explored the major figures in Tite Street individually, but never in the context of their living and working environment. About the Author

Devon Cox is a cultural historian and playwright. Originally from Chicago, he moved to London in 2006 and worked in UK Business Development for Sotheby's. He has previously worked on researching and copy-editing two books for James Stourton, Chairman of Sotheby's, The British as Art Collectors (Scala, 2012) and Great Houses of London (Frances Lincoln, 2012). This is his first book.

Wonderful By Christian Schlect Readers interested in art and life-styles at the edge in London during the late 19th and early 20th centuries will enjoy this well-written and pleasant history. Here the possibilities have been realized.It is beyond remarkable that James Whistler, Oscar Wilde, and John Singer Sargent--and a host of other lesser cultural lights-- all gravitated over time to one street in the Great Wen.I think Mr. Cox's fine book will spark readers to further reading to explore in even greater depth the many fascinating characters that spring from these pages.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Engrossing By Frugalmom I don't usually read this genre, but I saw this mentioned online and decided to take a chance on it. I'm glad I did. It was a very entertaining read. I found myself getting easily sucked into the world the main character and her little girl were trying to survive in and the plot kept me interested all the way to the end. I do hope we get to hear more about what happens to these characters in future books. I really want to know.This was a great story, well worth reading. It could have used more careful editing, especially with regard to punctuation (mostly commas), but it was not terrible distracting. Hence the four stars.

"Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand" (Isaiah 41:10 NKJV). There are many dimensions to the emotion of fear. There are fears within us, about ourselves, between us and others, between us and the world, about what might happen to others, and many more. There are fears of what the world will do to us. Fear of economic collapse. Fear of World War III. Fear of the government going crazy with tyranny. There is also fear of our own identity. Fear of being left behind. Fear of others becoming rich while we falter in economic oblivion. Fear that we won't measure up when we ask for a job or a date. Fear that crimes we've done will be discovered. Fear of losing our reputation. Fear that our children will remain in jeopardy. Fear of losing all of the things we've worked so hard to accumulate. We can fear the imaginary. Fear of lost opportunities. Fear that something will go wrong. Fear that, when our life ends, it will have amounted to naught. Fear that God isn't real or that He never responds to prayers. We can live without fear. We have to know what this looks like. It can be easy, yet it takes practice. Why practice? Because we have old habits that make it hard to move in the right direction. Our feet and heartstrings don't always cooperate with what is best for us. What many people don't realize is that we choose the emotions we feel. All too often, people choose what is easy or convenient. If danger surrounds them, they feel fear. We tend to think of this as "natural," but it remains a choice. We could chose something else. Yet people find this unnatural and even difficult. But what makes it so hard? This is the important question. Choosing a different emotion may seem unrealistic only because a person has not yet had the experience of deciding their emotions instead of reacting to circumstances. If they have not yet found Christ and God, this can prove impossible. It really comes down to a matter of faith. When a person takes the easiest emotion for their current circumstances, they are living at effect—a billiard ball that is pushed around by external forces. But they don't have to live this way. Jesus Christ lived at cause. He invited all of his friends to do the same. Yet, even his disciples had a hard time understanding what he meant. Repeatedly, they complained about the uncertainty of having enough food, or having safety when they crossed the Sea of Galilee. Near the end, they feared that all would be lost when Jesus finished his mission here on Earth. Fear is something we each create within ourselves. It is a reaction. Like all of the negative emotions, common fear comes from one place and one place alone.

This is an up lifting book that I can really relate to. I definitely need to change my attitude and think through a lot of my situations in my life. This book has truly given me a lesson in living without fear. A lot of great and inspirational points that I thought has really touched me... Wish there was more though!

He’s back again to deliver another short story to fantasy and post-apocalyptic fans alike. I’m always amazed at how well Henry is able to flesh out a new world (in this case, our world, but in a post-apocalyptic era) and new characters in such a short amount of time. The world is realistic, but eerie, and Mouse is very easy to relate to. She’s the kind of badass I wish I could be!I think my favorite thing about Ryan Henry’s short story is that in a mere 23 pages, he captivates me to no end. This story starts right in the middle of the action, and the action doesn’t end until the very last sentence. In fact, it was so entertaining I flew through it really quickly and ended up reading it a second time right away! I love how dedicated Henry is to his characters. He wastes no time with unnecessary dialogue and develops the setting really well without droning on and on. I’ve quickly become a huge fan and definitely look forward to whatever other pieces of work he churns out. If you’re looking for a fascinating book with well-developed characters and intense action from beginning to end, this book is for you! I promise you won’t be disappointed.As a little side note, I will say that there is some vulgarity so it’s best for mature audiences only. That’s something else I admire about Ryan Henry’s books, though. He’s able to use mature content in a way that makes sense and doesn’t take away from the storyline. Kudos to him because not a lot of author’s can do that! There’s nothing worse than reading a story that’s infested with vulgarity and adult content just because the author felt like using it. Instead, Mouse: A Post-Apocalyptic Short Story is strengthened by the intense language that Henry uses. Once again, kudos to Henry. This book is well worth your time and money.

By horrorgirldonna With the flood of post-apocalyptic books on the market, it’s tough to stand out lately, but author Ryan Henry manages to do just that with his addictive short story. But don’t let the fact that this is a short story fool you; he manages to pack quite a punch in a mere 23 pages! We meet Mouse, who by appearances you might think an unlikely heroine. She is tasked with delivering life-saving medication to the townspeople of Devil’s Table, located somewhere in the New Mexico desert. A plague has decimated most of the population and standing her way are brutish guards, scavengers, and an oppressive town leader.Henry manages to create some wonderfully vivid characters, particularly Mouse, who is a badass chick among a lot of guys who have reverted back to their primitive nature (not a big step back for a lot of them!). Ryan’s combination of rapid-fire pacing, unpredictable plot turns, and sharp dialogue made this one a winner for me. I’d definitely love to see another story featuring Mouse. If you are a fan of gritty, adult post-apocalyptic settings, this is the one for you.

You immediately worry about Mouse because she's the girl next door - if the girl next door carried guns and was having to fight for her life. She's a young woman on a mission and doesn't let anything stand in her way. And people who do stand in her way are quickly informed of her impatience with the situation.There's a good amount of adult language and humor right out of the gate, so if you're offended, don't read it. I didn't feel that it was over the top or that it took away from the book at all. Dirty words aren't thrown in just to be there, they all fit as expected in this type of book.If you're a sci fi geek and enjoy post-apocalyptic books, this is one that should be on your list.
