A longtime writer, David is currently living in Franklin, Massachusetts with his family and beloved dog. Right now he is continuing work on his fourth novel, Suburban Train, which started out as his senior thesis project. This is his first published book.

Morrison John Gunther wrote DEATH BE NOT PROUD as a moving record of the last months of the life of his son, Johnny, who had died, as the result of a brain tumor, at the age of seventeen. Throughout his long and painful fight for his life, Johnny had maintained a cheerful outlook, and continued to hope that, somehow, he would go on. His father, in writing this book, made sure that Johnny did go on.I'm sad that some of the younger (I assume) reviewers of this book found it wanting in pathos, or whatever it was that they thought was missing. Perhaps, with the coming of maturity, they will realize what a remarkable book it is. The fact that John Gunther was able to write this book at all, probably with tears in his eyes, was an amazing feat.The death of a child is probably the most heart-wrenching loss that anyone can experience. I know. I, too, lost a son aged seventeen. That was 21 years ago, just three months after my son's seventeenth birthday. The pain of that loss is still with me after all those years. Just writing a review of John Gunther's book is almost too much. How much more difficult must it have been for Gunther to write DEATH BE NOT PROUD within two years of Johnny's death.In spite of his own pain, Gunther wrote this book in hopes that other children and their parents who might find themselves in a similar situation "may derive some modicum of succor from the unflinching fortitude . . . . with which he (Johnny) rode through his ordeal to the end."Before Johnny died he wrote a poem of prayer that ended as follows:"Accept my gratitudefor all thy giftsand I shall tryto fight the good fight. Amen"And this when he knew he hadn't long to live. What a remarkable young man!

Sad and True By A.Trendl HungarianBookstore.com This might be the first book I read as a young boy which drew me to tears.It is relatively short, and when I reread it as an adult, I found myself awake deep into the night, turning each page in sorrow, knowing how it was going to end. I started early on a Saturday, reading until I was done early on Sunday morning.You know how it will end too. The title cheats us from wondering if Johnny will make it, but at the same time, there is a peace. Johnny was ready, and teaches us a little bit about being ready for life's ultimate end.The title, from a famous John Donne poem, is intriguing, as Donne saw no dignity in death, but that there was dignity in how we died. It refers to a more famous passage by St. Paul... "Oh Death, where is your sting?" talking about how Death has no real power over the faithful. Johnny was a faithful, powerful young man. He prayed, like another biblical person, for his unbelief, as he humbly struggles with trying to believe in God in the middle of his fight for life.John Gunther, the father, previously best-known for his travel books, has made a mark on literature which will never be erased.Read this honest, quietly spiritual, compelling story. It focuses on one teenage boy who suddenly develops a cancer causing brain tumor and his will to beat the odds and survive to make it to college. This book shows the will to win against any odds. It tells of the human sprit and a struggle of a young boy to survive. This book is beautifully written by the father of the teenage boy as he undergoes three surgeries and many treatments. It also shows the parents' desperate search to save their son from his proclaimed fate. They try almost anything for their son. It is remarkable how their son, throughout the entire book, is fighting. There is an ongoing struggle going on inside of him, to fulfill his dreams and make it into Harvard. Although he missed two years of high school, he gets tutors to help him make up his missed work. He is tutored even through the toughest times of his illness: surgeries, pain and diet restrictions. This boy does not give up whatever it comes to. This memoir is one that I recommend very much. It shows the courage that this boy had and really pulls at your heartstrings.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Another Enjoyable Collection By Diana I read Rossis's Power of Six, his other short story collection, and got a kick out of the unique tales. Infinite Waters didn't disappoint, offering a wide variety of speculative fiction stories, all well-paced with engaging characters and unique twists. I read them over two nights and liked these tales as much as the first collection. The stories range from grotesque to sweet with a few thought-provoking dynamics tossed in. The story Two's a Crowd is a particularly memorable look at the dynamics of human perception. I received an advanced readers copy of this book and was not asked by the author for a review.

Each of these short stories is handcrafted with the utmost attention to every facet of good story telling. But more, Nicholas finds a way to wrap the collection in a "meta" story. It was a brilliant way of grouping together a set of seemingly unrelated short stories. I read each of these over the course of a couple of days, and I found myself looking forward to coming home so I could dig into the next story.In short fiction, you don't have a lot of room for error. Every sentence, every word should have to fight for its existence, and Nicholas handles this expertly. Each story pulls you in to its unique little universe and takes you on a ride where the tracks are hidden, and you can't see the corners up ahead.If you want to experience what good short fiction is like, grab a copy of Infinite Waters.

A Special Treat By Sue Coletta I bought this author's children's story, Runaway Smile--which I adore--and when he completed Infinite Waters he sent me a copy. Speculative Fiction is not my usual genre, but I still really enjoyed these short stories. The writing is clean, the stories fun and entertaining. My favorite story is Infinite Waters. It's about a fortuneteller who has an aspiring author as a client. No spoilers, but I will say this story runs through the book so don't think, as I initially did, that it ends after the initial storyline. It's a cool technique; slipping in pieces of the plotline in between the other stories. Infinite Waters also had a cool ending that I didn't see coming. Overall, this a great read...speculative fiction fan or no.

I think the topic on the difference between "money transfer" networking and direct sales networking was a real eye-opener. Considering the predominance of weird marketing schemes, the book managed to separate the two which gave me a clear understanding of the picture. I've worked with customer service for a few years and I know the value of being emphatic but not to an extreme. Everything should always be in moderation and instead highlight the strengths of the company. Overall the experience in reading this was great. It was short, direct and informational.

I was very anxious to read it!The author begins by doing an overview of the first books, giving us a chance to remember (how could we forget?) everything that our heroes had gone through.Just like in the previous books, there are several romantic bits, but in this one we have more than that. We have the declaration and consummation of love – now which of the couples I’m talking about is something you have to read to discover.Abraham is still my favourite character and, I’m going to be very honest with you: I was frightened that Kate Carson would do something that I wouldn't like (like George R.R. Martin who kills everyone’s favourite characters), but thankfully that didn’t happen.Isabel…oh Isabel, the faints and almost-faints… Apart from that (which I kind of get because the Ladies in the XIV century wouldn’t go to battle), I loved that she finally spoke for herself!Just like Cian and Millie, I didn’t like that so many lives were lost but it was all part of the plot and it was necessary.Millie, like always, got her hands dirty and decided (and saved) the faith of the Clans. You go girl!And the best moment was, without a doubt with the horrible Nicol. I had no idea how Kate Carson would bring Millie back to the XXI century, and she did it in a brilliant way that I hadn’t expected.As I imagine you might know, these stories usually have happy endings, and this one isn’t an exception: but we don’t read these books because of their endings, in fact we get disappointed if it’s not what was almost promised at the beginning of the books. We read them because of the characters and because of what each one of them brings to the table. Cian, Millie, Isabel, Abraham, were, without a doubt in my mind, full on characters, interesting, complex and yet simple in their complexity, characters that made us cheer for their happiness.After all of this, if Millie stayed or not with Cian (or if he died in battle), if Millie returned alone (or not) to the XXI century or decided to stay in the XIV century, if Isabel married Cian or chose someone else, those are all things that you will only find out when you read the book.

By Carla D. from Pepita Mágica blog *I received a digital arc directly from the author in exchange for an honest review.*If you read my other reviews, you know how much I liked the previous books of “The Ley Lines Trilogy”. “Love in the Ley Lines” is the third and last book of this trilogy and I was anxiously waiting for it!Being the last book of the trilogy, this is the book where everything ends. Every question is answered; every moment has a meaning; and everything makes sense. I asked Kate Carson why she wrote this story in this way: why didn't she write everything in just one book instead of three tiny books. Her answer was that she was a fan of serialised TV Shows and she tried to do it with her story. In my opinion, it was new to me, but it really worked. I felt the same “need” as I feel when I'm following a TV Show: that hunger of wanting to know what will happen next. Karson has created incredibly good cliffhangers and it’s one of the greatest things about this trilogy.“Love in the Ley Lines” is the perfect ending for this story. I'm not going to develop that matter, because I want you to read the book and enjoy this reading experience as I did. Just let me tell you, Millie is one of my favourite female characters of all time. She is brave, she’s strong, she's determined, and she's willing to do anything to protect her loved ones.I liked the way some characters grew up throughout the story. I liked how Millie influenced people and certain moments of XIV century, but also how they influenced her. Cian is an interesting male character; I would love to read more about him, to be honest. But Abraham is my favourite character. His relationship with Millie is wonderful, very caring and adorable. He's totally Millie’s father. And he's funny!Wrapping up, this third book keeps the consistency from previous books. Everything happens naturally. I didn't know how Kate Carson would make Millie goes back to the present, and it happened perfectly. I just have one negative thing to say: during the battle scene, it was a bit confusing. I don't know if it was because super sleepy and tired or not, but sometimes I didn't know how X becomes Y. But, to be honest, battles are confusing, so maybe it’s kind of a good thing, after all.I loved it, and without a doubt I’ll keep an eye on Kate Carson’s writing!

By LegRah OMG OMG OMG!!!There is no question to weather or not this book was good, but weather or not it was as mind blowing as the rest of KanyeInterruptedMe books? IT WAS! I live for her books! I have reread all of her books at least 4 times…no lie. To anyone who has not checked out all of her books, please do so. They will change your LIFE! Nearly all her books are on Wattpad and you can read them for free. Her latest book ‘Jake the Panty-Ripper’ is slowly creeping up to be tied as one of my favorites of hers, right along with ‘How to Kill an Incubus’. Kimber is Bae!

Nothing less than Incredible By Mary A I was privileged to have read HTKAI when it was on Wattpad so I can honestly say that is definitely worth reading and buying! I'm excited for the release so I can add it permanently to my library. She did an amazing job building the characters and the emotions reach out to you through the page. I'm glad she wrote this prequel because it gives another dimension to the lead character Rae. But seriously, the book was incredibly amazing and I couldn't put it down once I started and I'm sure you all will feel the same way too!
