Christians are called to bear a cross. These crosses sometimes involve the general burdens that affect everyone. At other times Christians bear specific burdens. The Lord promises us that our crosses and burdens can be transformed into small splinters if we focus on what really matters. How can this happen? You will find the answer in Splinters of the Cross … the same answer that was found by Abraham, Moses, Daniel, Peter, Paul, and many more: God's grace is sufficient for you.

No doubt, he thought from the heart and much of this book shows that. The reason for the three star review is that a lot of the passages are quoted from the paraphrased "Message." This translation takes a lot of liberties in changing both word and thought. For example, Paul's "thorn" called a handicap. I cannot find that it was a handicap in all of my studies. Maybe it was the pain of the sin in his former life? Maybe a sexual desire, such as Michael alludes to here?Very easy read overall. Recommend reading for yourself to understand the "splinters" of life while thinking about the "splinters of the cross."

In fact, through the first several chapters, I thoroughly enjoyed the reading. However, about midway through, the errors became glaring. This book is neither Biblically nor logically sound, although he writes as though you should believe it is. He picks verses that support his ideology while ignoring other verses in the Bible, does not have all of his definitions quite right, and leans on logical fallacy to make you think you're wrong. Sorry, but I don't buy it.That said, I still like the book. Were it not for the Biblical errors, I would have rated it higher. It's a good read, enjoyable, passionate, as I've said. But take it with a grain of salt. Let this be the starting point of your journey into God's truth rather than a shortcut. Let it throw you into God's Word to see what God says, and you'll be okay. The concept is there. The heart is there. Just don't get too tied up in the details of this particular theology. And I say that with grace to my brother, because I am of the same background he is and have, at times in my life, made the same errors.*I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.*

The book is intended for those people who are already believers in Christ, and probably targeted towards Generation Y readers. Each chapter describes Biblical scenes in a modern narrative to appeal to a younger generation. There doesn't seem to be a central theme that connects all the chapters together; and he does in fact call the book "a collection of my ramblings" in the introduction. The subject matter jumps from clapping, to baptism, to virginity, to blood. There are a few statements that I'm sure will step on the toes of members of some contemporary mega-churches. However, he does back up these statements with scripture and it is these contentious statements that I appreciate the most; especially the ones I had never thought about before.I received this eBook for free in exchange for an honest review via StoryCartel.com
