Best book I've read on decision making and leadership in a long time By Finn S Torjesen In 1988 I began reading books and reports on leadership because I was thrown into a responsibility I didn't feel equipped for. At that time I was a grass roots specialist (Implementer) but didn't know it. I often got in trouble with my Initiators and Influencers because my style was too intuitive or I wasn't equipped to explain it. Reading this book, "Decision Time", authored by Shini Yesudian Abraham in cooperation with GMI and many others, I've begun to understand myself and the many others around me. It seems that we've danced an organizational dance of leadership as Shini described with very distinct leadership roles and functions. Maybe this is specifically an Indian thing but I don't think so, since it fits so well into my Western experience albeit I've worked mostly in Asia.Shini in her book describes 9 factors of decision making. These nine factors in my opinion (40+ years of ministry in six countries) are critical to leadership. When I consider my roots in the Northern European world and being educated in the North America world but then spending 45 years in the Asian world I often wonder what is happening to our communities of Christ followers in Europe and North America. After reading this book I'm deeply concerned that we have not emphasized these 9 factors and need to learn from the leaders of India that were interviewed and their answers well analysed by GMI and presented in a compelling way by Shini. This is a good study book. Shini has ended the book with a series of questions that can guide a leader in reviewing the roles of different leadership positions/styles and analyse factors that are most important for decision making. I personally am not likely going to be a serious scholar with a PhD (Too much hard work). Rather my calling focuses me on very practical realities of how to find a working structure that makes the call that God has given us, the community he's put us into with the skills he's equipped us with to all work. This books gives me structures and ideas I can work with to accomplish these goals. As you read this book, consider the scriptures that go beyond individual cultures, consider your experience with the difficulty of maintaining unity on a leadership team and ask God if he doesn't have some ideas here that will help you stay focused on him to his glory.May God guide you as you read,Finn TorjesenFounding DirectorEvergreen Family Friendship Service

By Tim Svoboda After 25 years of ministry in India with YWAM I enjoyed reading this book and getting a glimpse into the hearts of some of the current and past giants in Ministry and the emerging leaders from India that GMI researched. All ministry that we do is built on those that have gone before us and this book gives us a chance to be “mentored” at a distance by some of those great ones. GMI has selected a group of Indian leaders to analyze how they make decisions in building their ministries, sustaining momentum and developing long lasting transformational impact. Shini Yesudian Abraham has taken the research and made it enjoyable, personable and instructional. I would recommend every young leader embarking in a life of ministry to read this book to wet their appetite to study Gods word on how He guides us in making right decisions. The book covers a wide range of issues around decision making such as the use of a fleece, circumstantial indicators, hearing the voice of God, vision, calling, eldership, organizational structure to name just a few. It gives you a glimpse into the lives and ministries of key and upcoming leaders in India. I personally enjoyed the three categories of leaders classified as Influencers, Initiators and Implementors which gives an uncomplicated way of perceiving the various types of leaders in the body of Christ.Overall I think the book will be a tremendous benefit to young emerging leaders who are moving out into the ministry to try to understand from a "great cloud of witnesses" who have gone before them on how they made decisions. This coupled with a continual study of God's word on the topic will bring clarity on how God speaks and aids us in making decisions that bear fruit.

By Amazon Customer From the types of personalities in leadership to the diverse examples of the committed servants of Christ who have lived out His calling, "Decision Time" reveals the extensive impact of the decisions we make--their blessings and cursings, and shines forth with practical and spiritual testimonies from Christ's servants who gleaned solid wisdom.I can't rightly say whether the book is more practical than spiritual, or more spiritual than practical, for through the pages this book has a way of integrating both so that the reader is both inspired and well informed on the many aspects of godly leadership. What a delight to read through the various life-examples alongside the godly counsel! I find myself unwittingly remembering the smallest of details throughout my day, meditating on the meanings as I go. This book possesses a wealth of knowledge and is carefully researched and packaged from an array of viewpoints. Its design is for those needing a clearer, more sensory understanding of ministry, its choices, and effective safeguards practiced by those who have already served the Lord well. I believe it is nothing short of a treasure for the servant who strives to run the race well.
