A BOOK TO BE READ FAR AND WIDE BY SOUTH AFRICANS AND THOSE WHO LOVE THIS LAND By tony dalton I have worked in the utility in question for many years ending at the end of 1997and am a South African citizenwe have had much information from various sources about the ongoing Eskom crisismost of the information was inadequate, vague and some patently incorrectthis book reveals so much about the disastrous steps to remedy the crisis and theconsequences of bad governace and bad government in SAthe electricity woes of SA at the present time are one of the chief causes of a very serious economic slump and lack of growthin the SA economythis is a book of quality research and deserves to be widely readthe writer pulls no punches and has done his homeworkhopefully there are many in SA who will take up the challenge and try to remedy the bad situation that we are in here

Very comprehensive treatment of the topic By Wayne Kitching This book is well-researched and included issues I've already forgotten about (like the cancelled Rio Tinto Alcan smelter for Coega). It appears not to push specific agendas, and doesn't paint a false picture of a perfect Escom/Eskom in the olden days.There are a few editorial issues which detracted slightly from the reading experience. Also, in parts the book read like a newspaper article.I'd recommend "Blackout: The Eskom Crisis" to anyone in South Africa who wants to understand the Energy crisis in South Africa better, including people within the power industry, policy makers, business leaders and ordinary citizens.
