By Brigid Slattery This collection of short stories about the sea (as well as occasionally fresh water environments, as in the case of my personal favorite, "The Fishists") should not be missed! If you enjoy stories of a Lovecraftian turn, you'll very likely enjoy "Astonishing Tales of the Sea." In case you didn't notice, you can read the entire first story, "A Key on Her Finger" by clicking on the "look inside" feature. I would consider these stories to fall under the umbrella of fantasy and sci/fi but particularly the fantastic genre. "The Fishists" is a long-short story that focuses on the Bridges family who have decided to take up a diet composed solely of food found in water (salt or fresh.) It turns out that fishism, as it's called, is the healthiest diet one can have and yet the growing subscribers to the diet are forced into exile, to the Great Dismal Swamp in Virginia. It's there that most of the story takes place, and where a few weird things start happening to the fishists! Although the compelling and inventive plots and characters of all of these stories are, of course, a major draw, I find the author's style and humor to be the best part. I wish there was an audiobook version; I'd love to hear the stories read aloud. Anyway, I highly recommend this book to anyone from middle school age and upward, I know I plan to tell anyone who will listen to me about this diamond in the rough! Hope to see more from this author.

By Wiley Wiggins Just finished "The Preparation for a Dive", the 3rd story of the excellent collection, and I have to say it was one of the most exciting stories I have read in quite some time! I anxiously look forward to reading the last three - I am sure I will not be able to put them down once I do! I highly recommend for readers of all ages.
