We all feel like outsiders sometimes. On the fringes. Rejected, despised. Maybe even feared. In six short stories that blend and transcend genres -- from zombie dystopian to dark fairy tale, sci-fi and murder mystery, romance and horror -- see what it's like to be one of the unfortunate ones. A lonesome, broken monster. In 24th century America, where technology and innovation have been forgotten, an alien invasion is quietly raking the countryside. As the creatures seek refuge, they're hunted one by one. But they're not what they seem. Owls Head is an Eden in the mountains, but the townspeople are haunted by a monster they call the Forest Devil. When twelve children vanish one summer day, they know it's him. He's eaten their young before. Now, they've determined to destroy him, once and for all. Supernatural secrets are hard to hide. After 10,000 years hiding his, an immortal man hunts Paris for a woman who could destroy him. Exposure is terrifying, romance even worse -- life is far too long. Plagues of panic, and hatred, are hard to cure. In a society where the apocalypse is long over and the undead are consigned to the underclass, one zombie tries to rise above. Artificial intelligence can come in handy. A robot named Apollo learns that when he's engulfed by his master's sinister plan and the evil vagaries of human nature. The question is: will he remain loyal to his master, or do what is right? Come hear their stories. See what it's like to live their lives. Perhaps then you'll see--we're not so different from the monsters we fear.

I love how different they all were, but also how well they went together. The sci-fi thriller, “Accomplice,” was my favorite, but they are all so good it’s hard to choose. “Bloodlines,” which also had a bit of sci-fi, was extremely clever and had a great twist that I’ve definitely never encountered before, and Eugenia was just a great character. “Bernie & Baris” was an entertaining fairy tale with very lovable characters. “Downhill” was smart and witty with an entertaining twist on a monster we see a lot of these days. “A Funny Thing Happened in the Morgue” was a unique love story with a beautiful and eerie setting, and quirky and lovable characters. And “A Child’s Imagination” was a nice, quick little spook in the middle. I highly recommend this book to people who love fantasy or horror, or just really unique stories!

Well written stories with unforgettable characters By Marsha "The Daily Lives of Monsters" is a clever compilation of short stories everyone can enjoy. I'm not a fan of horror or even aliens but this book is different. JH Mae's characters are so unusual and their stories are written so well! The eerie "A Funny Thing Happened in the Morgue" is set in Paris with one of my favorite characters, Gaspard, who is murdered! Jack in "Downhill" is sad and comical. Bernie is innocent and curious in "Bernie and Baris". My favorite STORY is "Accomplice" with the creepiest leading man, Llewellyn. But my favorite CHARACTER is Eugenia, as the tough, crass old broad in "Bloodlines". "Monsters" is a wonderful collection of well written stories you are going to love!

Spangler III While it was beautifully written, the first story wasn't my cup of tea. The others, however, are absolutely wonderful! I have now read every one of this author's works to date, and will be a fan for life! Her talent is inspiring, and I hope she continues to weave extraordinary tales for years to come!
