Our congregation has lived in silence with the pain and suffering of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered people in the midst of our families, friendships, and community. Inspired by simple gatherings of prayer and conversation, we began to talk to one another in circles of trusting and confidential conversation. Out of that experience we decided to put together this book of stories from members of our own congregation. The response to these stories has been so overwhelming that we have now issued these stories as a book for the general public, available through Amazon.com. We hope this little book can serve as a starting point for telling your own stories as your communities and congregations struggle toward a life of more acceptance, openness, forgiveness, and vitality. The Reconciling Conversations Group of First United Methodist Church, Waynesville, NC is part of a growing movement of United Methodist individuals, congregations, campus ministries, and other groups working for the full participation of all people—including lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered people—in the life and ministry of the church. Through circles of conversation we seek to build relationships, knowledge, and understanding that can lead to a more inclusive church through education, ministry, advocacy, and witness.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. 30 you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart By Kathie This book represents the honest dialogue and grace filled conversation people of faith entered into around the issues of sexuality and faith. The reflections are personal testimonies to the holy conferencing that took place and the desire to move as individuals and the body of Christ toward reconciliation. Their witness is a road map for others to follow as the body of Christ lives into Christ call, "29 Jesus answered, “The first is, ‘Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; 30 you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:29-31 NRSV)
