When I was younger, I loved the horror comics stacked in the magazine racks down at the grocery store. Horror comics that incorporated ghouls, werewolves and vampires, were some of my favorite things growing up. I read comics like Creepy, Haunt of Horror, and Tales From the Crypt and I always remember the GREAT cover art on the front of all of them. I was hooked before I even opened the the first page (Great cover art was one of the reasons I downloaded this book).I loved staying up late at night and scaring myself right before bed. It drove my parents crazy. Often, I'd get myself so worked up that every little noise, every little movement in the house made me want to pull the covers up over my head. It was wonderful. So when I got my copy of Brian's Monsters & Demons - it was, in many ways, a return to my childhood.First, I love short story collections. With all the different choices, a reader can chose like they are going to through a literary buffet line. People can almost always find something that is going to appeal to them in such a selection, so I salute Brian for going this way.Second, in today's face paced world, I find that demands on my time are constantly creeping in more and more. Stopping to take a few moments for myself is very precious to me. I appreciate when I can have the chance to enjoy a whole story from start to finish. It's like watching episodes of Scooby-Doo all over again. Scary stories just seem to fit the bill perfectly for such occasions.Brian's Monsters & Demons is a wonderful series of short stories that pull at all those little strings deep within every one of us. Brian opens up that place that is just begging to be frightened and then scratches that itch. There are tales here where the reader easily gets transported to those dark areas of the human subconscious - I found that especially true in stories like Arraziel and Click-Clack.Two of my favorites from this collection are The Nest and Harvey. They really hit home with me because they deal with things that I myself find frightening, snakes and clowns (what is it about clowns that creep so many of us out, anyway?) All my life it's things like those that have made me very uncomfortable, and Brian did a wonderful job at connecting to that.Look - Scary stories aren't for everyone. Just as romance or fantasy, or self-help books aren't everyone's cup of tea, this book is for people looking for a good scare. But if you ARE the type of person who is a little twisted, or perhaps a little bit off, than downloading Monsters & Demons is for you. I think you are going to enjoy reading the stories Brian has written here. They are well written, easy to read, and above all scary. And maybe, just maybe, at the end of Monsters & Demons you might find yourself re-checking your closet or taking one more peek under your bed before turning out the light. I think, should that occur, it would make Brian very happy, indeed.

A good evening's entertainment By Carmen Stefanescu This collection of several creepy horror stories that in my opinion are as many twisted trips into spooky stuff, make for a good evening's entertainment if you are a fan of the genre. Each of the stories, real page turners, have bizarre twists and turns that keep you guessing until the end. And then you are still surprised. Most anthologies have a few strong stories, and some that are not as engrossing. Monsters and Demons is a surprisingly even collection of horrorish tales from an author I had not read before, Brian Rella.I strongly recommend this book for suspense seekers. If you're not squeamish and can appreciate a good scare, then I'm sure you'll find a bunch of stories in here that you'll enjoy.While, as a rule, I’m not a fan of short stories this was a great little collection. I think my favorite stories would have to be " Click-Clack " and ""Arraziel" and I think both of them would be great as standing novels. But even the rest of the stories are fun. These quick, dark reads provided me with plenty of entertainment. Well written, well edited and well told. I'm looking forward to trying something longer by Mr. Rella.Pick up Monsters and Demons collection!My copy came from Story Cartel in exchange for my honest review and nothing more.
