By Christie Stratos Thrilling, disturbing, and full of natural insight into a serial killer’s mind, the second part of Rocky Rochford’s Don’t Turn Around trilogy doesn’t disappoint. The excellence of the first book crescendos in the second and not only doesn’t disappoint but impresses. Rochford advances the psychology of the killer and throws in a great building shock in the end, and all the while not a word is wasted. You couldn’t read this in any more than one session if you tried!

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review, but after reading it, I got curious about the narrator. I couldn't imagine how he got to where he was at, and it's testimony to Rocky Rochford's skill that I went back and purchased Don't Turn Around, the first story in the Trilogy.In this 2nd story of 3, we go along for the ride with a mass murderer spiraling out of the control. Or maybe he's perfecting his methods. This is definitely a book I don't want to see in a pop-up version. It's one thing to have the narrator sharing his homicidal thoughts, but you immediately realize don't want him in the room with you. Of course, Rochford's aim is to do that very thing.Major strangling, clubbing, slashing, stabbing and general bloodletting. The narrator is so reckless with his many flavors of murder that I found suspense in wondering what kind of forensic evidence he was leaving and how he expects to get away with it. Maybe the concluding book in the trilogy will address this. I intend to read the third story as soon as it becomes available.There is one particular surprise twist at the end of Don't Say a Word that I have to hint at (certainly not to describe, I wouldn't want to spoil it). The homicidal narrator runs into the most irresistible perfume in the world near the end of the story, the one fragrance no man can resist. You'll have to read it yourself to find out just what that is, as well as for the experience of Rochford's suspenseful prose.

Sex and Death Forever Entwined By Jason Greensides There is much to admire in the second part of Rochford's serial killer trilogy: the deeply affecting nature of the violent and bloody deaths carried out with everyday objects like knives and baseball bats, rather than a more unrelatable, pompous, and bourgeoisie style of killing, of say, a Hannibal Lecter; the twisted undercurrent of humour and the punchy no-nonsense prose... The story's greatest strength, however, is how the killer implicates the reader in his crimes - we want him to do his worst, and he knows it. This gets the reader deep into the moral complexities of his killings, which, even more than in Part One of the series, have taken on an overtly psycho-sexual edge, adding another layer to our guilty pleasure, as essentially, we kill together.A dark and disturbing tale, the Don't Turn Around Trilogy, particularly in light of the ending of Part Two, is shaping up to be a short story classic.
