After reading just a few pages, I could tell it would be perfect for my boys - animals, weapons, and intrigue. There is nothing inappropriate for kids. The world McKay has imagined is unlike others I have seen, having a mixture of animal cultures and man cultures. It is also fascinating how religion plays an important part in the lives of these creatures and influences how they behave. The characters are not deeply developed, but are hinted at. I expect their stories and personalities will be more deeply developed as the story unfolds in future books. The ending is satisfying, and it leaves the reader wondering what will happen in future books.
