Jack of Diamonds is an interesting book that covers a life lived in another time and place. The depression and the cold weather really add another dimension to life lived in difficult times. Love the story line and the book. It does have a few "go slow" sections but on the whole a great read. I really felt I knew the character Jack extremely well at the end of the book. Bryce Coutney's skills really shine in books that feature a main character who is complicated. Alas there will be no more books from this great man after he passed away at the end of last year. RIP Bryce we will miss you.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. AWESOME as always!!! By shannonreads This is Bryce's Last book that he wrote while he was dying of stomach cancer... Such a wonderful writer. He captures the era and characters so wonderfully ..I savored every word. Its a wonderful journey and anyone who enjoys his work will be thrilled. LOVED the Canadian setting as I hail from Canada originally. The only down side was that he didn't have time to write the sequel as he so often does.. as he put it.. "His due date was up" ..so it wraps up rather quickly at the end with a lengthy epilogue.. left me wishing there was more time. I cried at the thought of never reading another of his works. He is my absolute favorite author. DON'T MISS THIS ONE!!!
