1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Wonderful Book By Cynthia C.C. I was so pleased when Kessinger reprinted this book!!! For years it wasn't available for purchase, so whenever I wanted to read it, I had to put in a WorldCat loan request at the local library, wait weeks if not months for the volume to arrive, and then be required to return it a couple weeks later. Now, I have my very own copy!!!The book was originally published in 1905. It explores the history of the English Separatist groups that later became commonly known as the Pilgrims, during their time both in England and in Holland, before they sailed on the Mayflower for the New World. (It also provides background history of Protestantism in England, leading to the formation of Separatist groups.) This book is one-stop shopping if you want to learn about those people during that particular period amidst their long journey. Meticulously researched, the book covers the topic(s) exhaustively, while remaining readable. And, very importantly, this is in no way a hagiography. It is a rational, scholarly history. Even 100+ years later, no other book has come close to covering this topic as well or in such detail.The content is 5 star, but the physical book itself doesn't rate nearly as highly. In my copy, the glue has already cracked along the spine, causing chunks of pages to loosen. But, really, given that this is the only option available, I am still thrilled to have the book sitting on my shelf.
